Kohei Nagase, a genius when it comes to makeup and special effects. He uses his skills to expertly disguise people from the press, criminals, or anyone wanting to do them harm.

Things get rolling for Kohei and his stuntman sidekick Shingo when a sexy young starlet asks for their help in ditching her sleazy manager. Later, Kohei is commissioned to replace some zombies at a local horror theme park, but can he also prevent a disgruntled make-up artist from blowing the attraction sky high? And an actress whose reputation was sidelined by an accident that left her body scarred hopes Kohei can get her career back on track.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Kohei is a special effects genius who uses makeup skills to solve others' problems. He's a terrific, relatable character, especially for the teen male reader. He's cool, he's attractive, he's talented, he's supremely aware of his awesome abilities... but he also goes goo-goo around the actress he has a crush on. His first mission is to protect her from her creepy manager, in an ever-escalating series of double crosses. The makeup process is presented by the authors as intense, with all the importance of a major operation. Later, Kohei and his stuntman partner try to prevent a violent attack on a monster theme park by a vengeful former employee and cover up scars for nude scenes. The book is full of dramatic adventure punctuated with comedy exaggeration (and the occasional breast shot), but it's the high-stakes action that sticks with the reader. The art successfully conveys both the comedy and the life-changing risks. A series about visual trickery is perfect for comics, and this one's well-executed, with some thematic depth, information about effects work and shout-outs to the real-life greats. (June)

Duo Maxwell fans rejoice! For here is a hero after your own hearts. I knew as soon as I saw his saucy grin and insouciant stance on the cover that I would like Kohei, and I wasn't disappointed. He may not have a three foot braid and purple eyes, but he has a certain je nais se quois that is Maxwellesque.  You know what, I do know what it is. Kohei is confident to the point of near cockiness, likes making others laugh, and charmingly goofy one minute, devastatingly charming the next. Just like a certain someone. More to the point, he's ridiculously adorable and he knows it. If you are fond of that classic GW clown, check out this series. The themes are different, but this character is cut from the same archetype.
