Originally posted on my blog: Tangled Up In Books Music is a big part of my every day existence, so finding books surrounded by it is always a nice treat. Most of the time they're all about tattooed, bad boy rockers. Which isn't a bad thing of course but I grew up on country and so when I saw that the FMC of Girl With Guitar was an Oklahoma girl with dreams of Nashville in her heart that was all I needed. It was highly addicting and the only problem I had with this book...was putting it down. Kylie is just a small town, country girl who's left with nothing after the tragedy of her father's death. And wanting to make him proud she takes what little belongings and money she has and jumps on a Greyhound to Nashville. Just a girl with her guitar and dreams of making it in the country music scene. An, it-only-happens-in-books-and-movies, encounter with Trace winds up having her finishing out his tour as his opening act. She's one of my favorite types of females to read. She's kind of got that wholesome sweetness to her but she doesn't take crap from anyone. She is really funny and full of snark. It makes for some great banter. I instantly liked her. She was very real. Then there was Trace. He's not meant to be very likeable in the beginning. He's the platinum album selling star, full of arrogance and numerous issues including drinking. He's pretty jaded by the whole music scene and life in general. Closing himself off to the world and only showing an image of what's expected of him. Completely self-destructive! He was cold and rude and I really wasn't impressed. Until little by little, Kylie starts to crumble the wall he's built around himself. Then we start to see beyond the bad boy country star and see what's really there. And that's when little by little, he started to steal my heart. The chemistry between these two was explosive. Right from the start. Though in the beginning it wasn't exactly in a good way. His self-destructive behavior, drinking and not showing up to gigs, was threatening to crush her dreams. Kylie, not being one to sit back and allow herself to be treated that way and would get right up in his face and call him on all his stuff. As time goes on an undercurrent of attraction starts to sizzle between them. Oh. My. God. I mean there's a lot of push and shove that really builds up the sexual tension between them. It takes it's time, but when it happens it's very hot and steamy. But hooking up only causes even more problems and heartache and gives them a whole new set of obstacles to tackle. It becomes a big case of will they or won't they be able to get past the lies, the past and the pressures of the world they live in. Girl With Guitar was able to very easily pull me through a whole range of emotions. After reading the prologue alone I had a feeling I was in for an emotional ride and boy was I. There was laughter and anger and tears, from me haha. I felt so many things, though most of all I fell in love, with all of it. I can't wait to see what's to come in book 2!

Girl with Guitar is like a hit country song that I want to leave on repeat! EASY 5 Stars! The magic begins in Nashville! Seriously, I live here…so I know. I did a little happy dance when I started this book and realized Kylie was trekking her way down to Nashville with her guitar in tow. I felt like I’d been sent to country girl heaven! Let me just start by saying, I abso-freakin-lutely loved this book! Kylie was a girl with sass and determination. She was trying to make something good come out of the loss of her father. She knew she’d always have her music, but that was all she could really count on. She hopped on a bus with a one way ticket and didn’t look back. photo GWG3_zps7870c2b9.jpg From the get-go I loved Kylie. I’ve read a lot of books lately where the girl just cowers to the guy. That is not this girl. Kylie has backbone. She reminded me of the Kellie Pickler song, TOUGH . “There ain't nothing wrong with a woman that got a little backbone.” Anyway, Kylie has big dreams and she’s not going to let anything or anyone get in her way. Not even the sizzling, handsome, addictive, country star Trace Corbin! She’s determined she's not going to let herself get sucked into his downward spiral. She shines and she takes Nashville by storm. Luckily, for awhile Trace makes it easy on Kylie. He is so wrapped up in his own demise that Kylie finds it easy to keep herself at a distance. But, really, who could stay away from this for long? photo GWG4_zps31e834b1.jpg Eventually, Trace and Kylie connect. It’s a slow building romance. No insta-love here, but that makes it all the more sweeter. There is a steamy scene mid-way through the book. I was like… WHOA. More please. Trace and Kylie both have their demons to overcome so the journey is anything but smooth. There is no denying their chemistry, but can they overcome their doubts? Can they overcome the pressure surrounding their careers and image? photo GWG_zps556f9a95.jpg The writing is wonderfully addictive. The story never slowed down. I stayed glued to the pages the whole time I was reading it, and now that it’s over I want more. Actually, I’m kind of wondering if Caisey Quinn not only has the chops for being an author but also a songwriter? Check out these lyrics from the book... photo GWG2_zps0f5107e6.jpg That belongs on the radio! This is a must read. Especially for those that appreciate a little country music. I can’t wait to see where else the series leads these two!

Finally got around to reading this one. Don't know why I didn't pick it up sooner. I couldn't put it down. Loved Kylie. Loved how independent she is and that she says what's on her mind. Trace is a drunk that is throwing his career away. Kylie is hungry to work and make a name for herself. Highly recommend this book. It's the first in a series.

Girl With Guitar is a story about growing up, chasing your dreams, and finding out that things aren’t always how you imagined they’d be. As always, CQ begins a beautiful story with a cast of incredible characters and introduces us to a life most of us can only dream about. This story depicts the many sides of fame and the choices that have to be made along the way to hold onto who you are and still touch your dreams. Kylie is one of my favorite female characters. She is feisty and funny and doesn’t take crap from anyone, not even Trace Corbin. Trace Corbin has everything Kylie wants and he is throwing it all away for his preferred state of drunken oblivion. I’ll admit I hated Trace at first. He was such a rude and infuriating mess. However, by the end of the book I saw him as the broken and desolate man he really was and all I wanted was to find a way to fix him. Obviously, two such opposite personalities are going to create a lot of friction. The friction they generated was incendiary and herein lays the strength of this story. Watching the relationship between Kylie and Trace develop and change as they battled their demons, insecurities and the inimitable pull they feel towards one another was breathtaking. CQ has mastered Kylie and Trace’s dynamic and portrays it flawlessly in every interaction, conversation and gesture they share. I enjoyed every high, every laugh and every hopeful moment right along with every disappointment, every heart wrenching moment of honesty, and every tear shed.

AMAZING! Kylie and Trace had just met and the verbal sparring was like watching strips of skin being torn off. Caisey Quinn did an excellent job giving them amazing chemistry.  I can't wait to read the next book.

I have to say, I have read over 300 books, and this one is close to my favorite. It has a great story. It wasn't rushed or drag on. You definitely have to read the entire series. The characters are great. This book makes you laugh, cry, and hot!!! A must read series.

3.75 stars:  GIRL WITH GUITAR is the first storyline in Caisey Quinn’s New Adult contemporary series Kylie Ryans.  The premise focuses on nineteen year old Kylie Ryans-an up and coming country music star and her struggles to make it big when everyone wants to pull you down. Girl with Guitar follows Kylie as she endeavors to survive.  At a young age, Kylie lost her mother and with the recent death of her father, Kylie would find herself on the streets when her vindictive and angry step-mother kicked her out.  With music as her passion, Kylie lands a waitressing job a in bar and one open mic night later, the infamous country star Trace Corbin will offer Kylie a spot on his tour.  Only Trace has some issues of his own, and Kylie seems to push all of his buttons. We watch as Trace continues his downward spiral using alcohol and woman only to find himself face to face with a strong-willed and determined Kylie Ryans whose hope to make it big in the music business is dependent on Trace’s sobriety and tour appearances.  When it looks like everything is about to fall apart, Kylie tells it like it is and at some point she is hoping that Trace will realize that there is more to life than alcohol and the destruction of his career. The relationship between Trace and Kylie is acrimonious at best.  Trace doesn’t like to be told and Kylie doesn’t want to fail.  But Trace’s actions will doom everyone to failure unless he cleans up.  There is an instant attraction between the couple, one that cannot be denied but the attraction is hidden behind bitter contempt and fear when so many lives depend on one man and his music.  As their relationship begins to develop into friends then lovers, once again, someone is waiting to pull the rug out from under, and Kylie will find herself at the receiving end of maligned gossip, law suits, and hatred from the man with whom she was falling in love. Girl with Guitar is a storyline that will break your heart when you realize that all Kylie has ever wanted to do was sing; and it will be the people from her past that use their knowledge to bring a young singer down before she has the chance to make it big.   This is a story about betrayal and loss; heartbreak and sorrow; addiction and recovery.  This is also a story that will tug at your heart and shed a few tears for a young singer whose only sin is to love to sing and play the guitar.  Caisey Quinn has written a wonderful story of hope where a young woman with dreams of singing and writing songs will find herself climbing the ladder of success only to be pulled down-one vengeful story at a time.

Kylie has had a rough life. Her mom died when she was 2 and her dad raised her alone until she was 13. He married Darla a horrible woman that fought with kylie all the time. 4 years later her dad dies on the job at a factory. Kylie is 18 and her stepmother kicks her out because she thinks kylie is sleeping with her boyfriends. Kylie decides to go to nasville and fill her dreams as a singer. Well she's broke and staying in a crappy motel and no jobs open. Visiting an open mic night the staff is short and she is hired. She preforms 2 weeks later with a spin off to a popular country singer, who happens to be there that night too. She amazes them all and land a tour with him. Lits of ups and downs between them. KD
