    Yes the did & do!

This is Homstedt's second book about women in the Iraq war. It's written much better than her 1st book. Again, her research is flawless. But this time, her writing is much better and more engaging. The book doesn't read like a research project.

On this outing, Holmstedt delves into the emotional toll the war had on women. She also shines a glaring light on the inadequeties of the Veterans's Administration and the Military on dealing with women returning from war. Both the VA & the Military have treated women just like men, when there are differences in how each gender deals with emotions, injuries, and attempted returns to duty. Holmstedt tell the stories of women trying to navigate systems not designed with them in mind and in many cases, not even acknowledging the fact that women do have unique problems.

The one thing I would have like, is to read more of how the women for "Band of Sisters" had fared after their return.

Must read for any gender, prior military or not!

    A MUST read Sequel

I picked up Kirsten's first book "Band of Sisters" a few months ago and after reading that I was so touched but was curious to know what these girls are currently going through. I looked up Kirsten's site and noticed that a new book "The Girls Come Marching Home" the sequel to her first book was due to release. I just knew with how great and remarkable her first book was I just had to read this. Well... I finished this weekend. Prepare yourself for an emotional rollercoaster, but a good one. It really opened my eyes to what these women sacrifice for our freedom! This is a MUST read book along with "Band of Sisters" Kirsten, keep up the GREAT work and thank you for opening my eyes more to this.

    I like this book

I really like this book. I also liked Holmstedt's first book "Band of Sisters." She has certainly done her research on this important topic. She got great information and interviews from the women she featured in the book. I enjoyed reading the warrior's stories. But I especially enjoyed Holmstedt's afterward essay. The writing was compelling and heartfelt. I believe the author's vulnerability was helpful because it highlighted the issues the women warriors featured in the book also had. The only thing about the book I might change is that I would like to see more direct quotations from the interviewees. I think that might make it a little more compelling. Still, I highly recommend this book.
