Overview

Our culture's narrow standard of beauty robs our daughters of their birthright to be self-accepting beings whose authentic power resides internally. Media images, advertising messages, peer pressure, the diet industry, and enduring family standards constantly reinforce the priority of thinness-the preferred look-over balanced nutrition and healthful choices, and over celebrating diversity and the inner spirit. It has become normal for our children to judge themselves and others harshly based on physical size, weight, and shape. In the most abundant nation in the world, our girls are starving for a foundation of self-esteem that will support them through adulthood. This book is written by teenage girls who have weathered their own storms, who have emerged with deeper self-esteem, and who want to help lead the way. The voices of wise teens are complemented by guidance from professional health experts, each of whom has nurtured her own daughters.

I have this crush on a boy. The weird thing is that he's a little bit younger then me. I feel weird around him. I want to impress him, but I also want to show him that I am both girly girl and tom boy. I also want to show him that I'm really funny at times. But how do I do this when I feel weird around him? I have two more problams. First, my friend has this crush on this boy. She found out because the boy she likes likes her and the boy she likes (christian) told his friend Asher and Asher said it outloud in game class (I am home schooled and we go to a homeschool co-op.) and Faith heard it and Faith told Maddie, my friend. Then, Maddie keeps asking me "Do you know Christan? Well, I have a crush on him." She keeps telling me that and I'm getting really annoyed. What should I do? Also, Faith is known for NOT keeping secrets, so what should I do if she blabs it to the whole school? Faith is also known for lieing so I am afraid that if I talk to her, she will say "Uh, no I didn't." Like when we were sitting together on a bench after a show Lizze's family walked by and Lizzie's sister, Lily, who was in my brother's kindergarden class, asked if we were all in the same family and Faith put her arm around my neck and said "Yep." And despite ny effort to convince Lily that Faith was lying, I think Lily belived Faith. And when I tryed to talk to Faith about it, she said "I was just kidding. Can't you take a joke?" And she put her arm around my neck again. She has got me REALLY annoyed. What should I do about her? The third problam is kinda tricky. I was talking on the phone to Maddie and said "I have a crush on Michal." And she said "Um, you're on speakerphone." Now Maddie's sister Faith who is a diffrent Faith, heard it, and I don't really trust her. What if Michal hears it? It wasn't a real crush anyway, but he WILL belive it if he hears it. I just like him. It's not a crush. NOW WHAT DO I DO? these are three seperat problams. I want all the answers to my questions. PLEASE HELP???
