Overview

It's no secret that we live in a stressful world – and we all look for ways to unwind and relax. Young girls are keenly feeling the pressures of peer judgement, body image, family stress, global events and so much more in a world that seems both demanding and uncertain all at the same time.
The Girls' Spa Book is an invitation to take a step back, a deep breath in, and just relax. Delightful and clearly presented spa activities are paired with gentle words of advice to help girls to "chill out" and appreciate their uniqueness in a pressurized world.

and many more treats they can use themselves—or give as fabulous gifts! Lots of wonderful gift giving ideas are included.

With a cheerful and positive approach, girls are encouraged to de-stress-—a skill that will continue to be important as they become adults. This book is about celebrating gifts: the gifts all girls possess, the gift of having fun, the gifts girls can make for people they care about, and the gift of individuality that makes everyone special.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This is a rare book that accepts girls' preoccupation with looking good—but not solely for the purpose of getting a date. In fact, the advice and comments from young girls themselves are all about friendship, being yourself, learning how to relax, establishing your own values: "Never feel you have to compromise your values for someone else." The opening pages offer photographs of all the ingredients, tools and containers, mostly available in drugstores or health food stores. There is lots of beeswax, baking soda, cornstarch, and scented oils, as well as reminders not to use almond oil if you have a nut allergy. There are easy instructions for making scented sachets, soaking bath salts, shower gel, body lotion, lip gloss, scented hair rinse, even labels and cards to give all these products as gifts. The book itself is a perfect gift and a good way for girls to focus positively on their changing bodies. 2004, Maple Tree Press, Ages 10 to 16.

I am happy to find a book that gives me instructions on how to make homemade personal care products. My daughter and I are enjoying making homemade soaps. Now with this book we can make lip gloss, face wash, and more. This book also has uplifting messages on each page. :-)
