Young girls have so many pressures placed on them that they do not know how to relax. The author of this book believes that yoga might be a solution to that problem. Through breathing, relaxation and stretching exercises, young women can find their center and be better able to attack their day. The book is a combination of different elements mixed together. Most of the book concentrates on different exercises or positions. It is also contains background on yoga, including its history and the different styles. Interspersed throughout the text are comments by other girls who practice yoga. The best thing about this book is that it does not concentrate on looks or weight loss. Instead it focuses on relaxation and confidence. The book is full of colorful illustrations that make the reader happier just by flipping through the pages. Even the most struggling reader will be interested. While all of the poses shown are very simple, the author downplays the few risks involved. This may be a concern for some adults. Overall, this is a very positive book for young women. 2005, Maple Tree Press, Ages 12 to 15.

Relaxation, breathing, and the use of yoga as a stress reliever for anxiety about one's body, family, school, and social situations is the clear focus. Facts about yoga and the language and different types are sprinkled throughout the book, while brightly colored boxes provide information on how to perform the poses in a sequential manner. Quotes, or "girl talk," provide advice about life. The zany color combinations attract the eye to various sections of the pages, which sometimes seem too busy.
