Overview

A leading voice of the Tea Party movement -- FreedomWorks chairman Dick Armey ("the unofficial leader of the anti-Washington Tea Party movement." [Washington Post]) -- describes the historical roots, ideas, and tactics that animate the most important grassroots movement in America today. "Dick Armey’s FreedomWorks organization has become front and center in the Tea Party movement" (New York Times). Armey sees an unprecedented citizen uprising standing poised to take America back from big spenders, self-righteous income redistributors, and an arrogant political establishment. Grassroots citizens across the nation first became outraged by the big government "conservatism" of the Bush years, with its earmarks, deficit spending and bailouts for Wall Street. Downright frightened by the big-government audacities of Obama, they have taken to the streets en mass against a hostile takeover of our healthcare system, costly special-interest giveaways and a shocking expansion in the size of, and control by, the federal government.

In Give Us Liberty, the former House Majority Leader and FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe define what the Tea Party is fighting for and how all Americans can join the cause. This activist manifesto contains a battle-tested, step-by-step guide to organizing and having a real impact. Based on the successful experiences of local Tea Party movement leaders, it includes tips on building local grassroots communities, driving media coverage, social networking online, effective signs and messaging, street protests, and more.

Editorial Reviews

Glenn Beck
“My friends Dick Armey and Matt Kibbe uniquely understand what this movement is really all about, where it’s going, and why it’s happening now. Give Us Liberty is a detailed recounting of both the philosophical evolution and historical development of the Tea Party. . . . If you find inspiration in these pages, know this: You must get involved. The incredible burden of responsibility put upon future generations by our Founding Fathers ultimately rests on your shoulders.”

Meet the Author

Dick Armey
Dick Armey served in the House of Representatives for 18 years, becoming Majority Leader in 1994. A former economics professor, he was the main author of the Contract with America, a national policy platform credited with helping Republicans take control of the House for the first time in 40 years. As Chairman of FreedomWorks, Armey works to drive policy change from the grassroots up, believing that sound economic policy and Constitutionally-limited government will only happen when America beats Washington.

Matt Kibbe is President and CEO of FreedomWorks. Previously, he served as Chief of Staff and House Budget Committee Associate to Congressman Dan Miller. He was also Director of Federal Budget Policy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Senior Economist for the Republican National Committee under Lee Atwater.
