    Great Change of Pace

I've been a fan of Kathleen Morgan for a while and was absolutely thrilled when I picked this book up. Imagine, a fantasy Christian fiction book! Aside from The Chronicles of Narnia series, I wasn't aware these even existed. I was absolutely thrilled. After reading the book (I couldn't put it down!), I was anxious to read the next book in the series and find any other authors who write within the same category. My husband and I looked everywhere as did my mother (a librarian). After a fruitless search, I had to conclude no one else writes Christian fantasy (unless you want to read young adult books). I was bummed out to say the least.

After that disappointment, I found out recently that the second book in this series is being held up by the publisher. Needless to say, I'm thoroughly upset! I've been waiting (not terribly patiently might I add) for this next installment for a long time now only to be met with disappointment. How are Christian fantasy books ever supposed to be widely appreciated if there is only this one book in adult fiction? Please release it soon. I promise I'll buy it!

    Wonderful Christian Fantasy!

I throughly enjoyed this book! The characters of Vartan and Danae come alive from the very beginning of the book! The plot is gradually revealed from differant points of view and intensify as the book goes on. The battles are dramatic, the conversations between Vartan and Danae are humerous at times yet serious, and Vartan's struggle with accepting Athan as God is challening! I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Kathleen Morgan or enjoys books about dragons or fantasies!

    Great Fantasy Novel

Kathleen Morgan creates a wonderful fantasy world in Giver of Roses, the first book in the Guardians of Gadiel Series. Dragons and dragonmaids, Astorians and Hyleans, daegols and pedars are just a few of the inhabitants of Gadiel. Astoria has been under seige for three years, when Vartan Karayan, Crown Prince of Astoria, and its greatest warrior, is issued challenge he can't refuse. A battle to the death with the Hylean champion, Ladon, a warrior rumored to have sworn his soul to the Dark Lord, Phaeon, which makes him undefeatable in battle. During the duel, Vartan is left for dead. But he is rescued by his sister and the beautiful slave girl, Danae. As he recovers from his injuries, both women infuriate him by insisting he is the Guardian, the one spoken of in the ancient prophecies. Vartan is an atheist and doesn't believe in either the Dark Lord, Phaeon, or the ancient holy god, Athon, or the prophecies. There are a few spots that the pace slowed a bit, and a bit too much detail is given at times regarding Ladon and his treatment of the female captive, Ankine, but overall the book is a great read. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

    A fine fantasy

The enemy has laid siege on Astara in the Kingdom of Gadiel with only Prince Vartan Karayan standing in the way of conquest. Though physically and mentally exhausted, Vartan continues to lead the counterinsurgency until he is betrayed and subsequently critically wounded in combat left blind to die. A Hylean Lady Danae, who escaped from abusive religious tyranny, saves his life........................... When Vartan recovers his health including his sight his outlook has changed as he feels a bond with his nurturer though he still struggles with the truth turning towards Danae¿s God. When the Dragonmaids invite Danae to join them she believes she has found her life¿s calling. However the price is high as she has fallen in love with Vartan; he makes her decision harder because he not only reciprocates her feelings but needs her at his side praying to the true God to enable them to save his people................................. The queen of romantic fantasy Kathleen Morgan returns to her regal roots with GIVER OF ROSES, a terrific saga filled with religious symbolism and starring two courageous, battle fatigued champions trying to overcome impossible odds to save their people and each other, not necessarily inclusive. The story line is action packed from the moment Vartan falls in battle, but also insures the relationship between the healer and the patient and their beliefs in the true God evolves. The audience sees the dilemmas and choices that the two heroes must face though that insight at times diminishes the epic proportions of the plot. GIVER OF ROSES is a fine tale with strong spiritual parables that sub-genre fans will cherish...................... Harriet Klausner

    Giver of Roses

When true and false religion come into conflict, lives are forced to change and destinies are shaped in an ancient world. Vartran is a prince and warrior, not used to depending on anyone but himself and his skills until he is struck blind. God sends his salvation in the form of someone who desires his birthright. When he receives again his sight, he is able to see not only with his eyes, but also his heart. That vision leads him on a new path, one that seems to be united to that of Lady Danae. Yet, the dangers ahead will call upon them both to make sacrifices. Sometimes the only way to love is to let go of what you hold dearest, whether it be a crown or your heart. ....................... *** Though not overwhelming, the allegory is clear. Ms Morgan's return to her fantasy roots will be welcomed. Her style continues to improve with every book. ***
