Set amid the splendor and the barbarity of Rome, A.D. 180, Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" is the first major sword-'n'-sandals epic since Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus (1960). Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, The Thin Red Line) and Dead Can Dance vocalist Lisa Gerrard collaborated on Gladiator's stunning, Golden Globe Award-winning score, full of rousing symphonics and ensnaring melodies. Gerrard contributes throaty, wordless vocals as violins, brass, and percussion build to crescendos as exciting as the film's fight scenes. Grand but not bombastic, this is a richly textured score that will reward repeated listenings. While Gladiator's orchestral heft is occasionally broken by lighter, Mediterranean-style rhythms -- Heitor Perreira's guitar playing and reeds from Peter Gabriel collaborator Djivan Gasparyan stand out -- the score's overarching feel is as vast and unforgiving as the Roman arena and as pulse-quickening and steely as the men who fought there.

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
The original soundtrack to Ridley Scott's Gladiator features an original score composed by Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer and Golden Globe nominee and former Dead Can Dance member Lisa Gerrard. The duo's dramatic music incorporates traditional orchestral elements, ancient and indigenous instruments, and Gerrard's haunting vocals to create a timeless and evocative backdrop for Scott's tale of an avenging gladiator in ancient Rome.

The music is just so-so. I must say I was a little disappointed however, because the music in the trailers is better than the music on the soundtrack.

Great movie, great soundtrak. Many of the songs that heard in the background of the movie are in this score. Can remember specific scenes to the songs that are played.

The Gladiator cd is excellent! The music flowed evenly with the movie! The third track, Battle, and the 17th track, Now We are Free, are the best! I hope you enjoy it as much as did!

If you like classical music, this is the best cd to buy! My favorite song is 'Slaves to Rome.' #1 recommendation!!

This is right now my favorite soundtrack to date. The disc combinds sounds of battle and hope, which gives the hole think a mystical ethnic taste to it. track three, and track seven are my favorite. If you have seen the film, this will leave the same impact as the movie itself.

the soundtrack is just as good as the movie. It follows it scene for scene, and it doesn't get old. The beginning of of the Battle track, Earth, Strength and Honour, Honour Him and the final track are awesome. If you loved the movie, get the cd. It's even better than the Rock or Braveheart soundtracks.

A splendid soundtrack. Saw the movie 3 times. And the soundtrack is as good as the movie. Especially 'Battle,' its about 10 mins long. Any body who liked the movie, and that would mean everyone, should buy it.

The vivid emotion displayed in this score is amazing. The Gladiator the film itself is complex, I sometimes wonder how Han Zimmer could capture the mood of the film, and yet keep such a flow. I'd have to say that my personal choice of all the tracks would be the last three, which fluently brings the film to its eye popping conclusion. I would strongly reccomend this album!!! This is a must hear!! Two ears up!-Siskel and Earbert

For all you that like the movie GLADIATOR, you should get the soundtrack. The starts out soft then gets more climactic. One of the better soundtracks

I loved the movie so much I went out and bought the soundtrack album not relizing how glorious the music really is! Zimmer and Gerrard have created a masterpiece!!! Haunting, dramatic, beautiful, what other adjective other than GLORIOUS can I use. Oscar bound and well deserving of it. I can see every scene of the film as I listen to the album with my eyes closed. A must for every music lover!!!

Despite knowing the reputations of Hans Zimmerand Ridley Scott, I expected the movie and soundtrack to be overly hyped up. As it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised -- this is a VERY well done movie and soundtrack. The music is intense at times, rising to pulsating crescendos, but it is also subtle and cleverly arranged. I would not recommend ''The Battle'' or ''Barbarian Horde'' for bedtime music, but if film score soundtracks can ever be used in the weightroom or gym, these tracks would really get the heart pumping! My favorite track of all was the track featuring the most collaboration -- Now We Are Free. Gerrard's vocals really complement Zimmer's orchestration superbly. If you liked the movie and enjoy soundtracks, this is a must-have!

I went to see the movies 9 time and each time for a different reasons, the battle scene, and the music which is kind of a mix . I really like the ''battle'' and the'' progeny'' . I listen to it everytime i go play tennis.

I think gladiator is one of the best action (drama) movies I have ever seen. I have seen him 8 times and I am still touched by the fantastic music and the fabulous acting prestations of Russell Crowe.

Zimmer does it again. Keeping the adrenaline going and enhancing the emotion of Gladiator, Without him, the movie wouldn't be what it is!!

What wonderful music to a wondrous picture. I saw this movie many times in the theater and the music grabbed my spirit and stirred my heart. Great movies are always marked by a tremendous score. Take for instance, Titanic, Braveheart, Forrest Gump, and The Thin Red Line. All strong movies that had a score that ranged from somber to exciting to uplifting and spiritual. The titles ''Earth'', ''Strength and Honor'', ''I will see you again'' are all wonderful in their own way. Pretty much the whole CD. I applaud that Hans Zimmer, he made the movie for me. He is masterful at capturing the essence of a strong film. Lisa Gerrard also wonderful with her strong voice.

If you liked Lisa Gerrards voice, you should check into Dead Can Dance and their album Spitchaser.
