Barbara Pym is the mid 20th century Jane Austen; she wrote only

Barbara Pym is the mid 20th century Jane Austen; she wrote only a handful of books but I treasure each one of them.  Her gentle irony, combined with memorable characters,  make all her books worth reading over and over.  And over.  I envy the person reading her for the first time.

    Boring

In the description you see the word "boring" to describe the main character's life. It is. It is also boring to read about and after 50 pages I am done. There is nothing about Wilmet that makes her interesting or even someone I would care to get to know better. Overall, characters that are one dimensional, a plot that is slow, and a "boring" main character. Waste of time.

    So so read

This book started out interesting enough, at least character speaking, but as I got further into it, I felt like I was waiting for something to happen to the lead character because the book led you to believe that was where things were heading. Instead, it led to the opposite, the minor players were having life happen to them, but not the lead. The ending was dull, and I felt somehow cheated by it.
