Glee: The Music, The Power of Madonna

All Music Guide - Andrew Leahey
After taking a quick break in December 2009, Glee returned to the air four months later with a new character (played by Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele's co-star in Spring Awakening) and a new soundtrack. The Power of Madonna features seven of the Material Girl's tunes, all of them taken from the same episode. It's a short release, but it also holds its ground against the two albums that preceded it, namely because the material is so compatible with the show itself. Madonna's music has always thrived on drama, and it lends itself well to Glee's theater-pop approach, which tends to bring out the cheese in even the most serious of songs.
There's nothing serious about "Vogue" and "Like a Virgin," though, and the cast tackles both tunes with a mixture of camp and confidence. Chalk it up to increased experience or improved song selection, but everyone simply sounds better on these songs -- particularly Cory Monteith, who relies less on Auto-Tune and more on his gauzy tenor vocals during "Borderline/Open Your Heart." Elsewhere, Jane Lynch and Jayma Mays both make their vocal debuts, and the boys (minus Matthew Morrison) team up for a harmonized, *NSync-ish version of "What It Feels Like for a Girl," a premise that may sound dreadful on paper but actually works quite well on the record. At times, Glee still feels like a showcase for Lea Michele's vocals, and she sings lead on half of these songs. But Michele is no longer the only heavy hitter on the show, and The Power of Madonna allows more singers to step up to the plate.

    Gleetastic!

If you want to have some fun upbeat music, this cd is for you! My husband just bought this for me and I have already played it through too many times to count. It is great fun music. If you have or have not ever listened to Madonna you would enjoy this cd. It has several of her older songs and some of her more recent songs on it. My only complaint is that it isn't very long, a disappointing 7 tracks. :( I love Glee though and my other cd's from Glee so, I don't really have any real complaints! A definite must buy-you won't regret it! :)

GLEE - Madonna Album a Hit!!

I thoroughly enjoy the show Glee and have purchased every CD that they have produced from the show. The Madonna album is fantastic! All of my favorite songs with a new twist, sung by the show's characters that I love. Like a Prayer and Vogue are must hears. I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is a Glee fan and to any Madonna fan looking for a little taste of her music in a different light.

The Glee cast has done it again

"The Power of Madonna" is the newly-released CD from the hit TV-show, Glee. The CD itself only has 7 songs, yet they are very impressive. I think that $8.99 is a decent price for this. Here is a rating of each song individually:
    1. Express Yourself - 7/10; The lyrics are catchy and the singing is very nice. However, it gets repetitive very quickly.
    2. Borderline/Open Your Heart - 6/10; This is a mix of the two popular Madonna songs. I think would've enjoyed it more if it was just one or the other, because together it sounds a bit confused.
    3. Vogue - 8/10; This is one of my favorite songs on the album. The actress "Sue Sylvester" on the show sings it, and she does a wonderful job.
    4. Like a Virgin - 9/10; Rachel and Finn do a wonderful job on this famous song.
    5. 4 Minutes - 8/10; Sung by Mercedes and Kurt, this song does Madonna justice.
    6. What It Feels Like for a Girl - 3/10; This is the only song on the album I don't like. Neither the lyrics nor tune are very catchy.
    7. Like a Prayer - 10/10; In my opinion, this is the best song on the album. All the characters work together on this song, making it beautiful.

    Music You Can Enjoy

Most of the music/singing on the GLEE CD are tunes that most "adults" would enjoy - not only is the music/words understandable but it is good clean words - something the entire family can listen to. Plus when you are alone, you can crank up the volumn and dance around the kitchen as you make the drudgery of doing dishes more fun!

Madonna is the best featured artist Glee has made(thoough this is the first).Glee made their own rendition of Madonna's chart-topping hits and my two favorites were Sue Sylvester's VOGUE and 6 partners' of LIKE A VIRGIN.Episode 14 of Glee is the best for me (though it may change depending on the next episodes)but all in all:Glee is the best!no Losers here!
