Glee: The Music, Vol. 1 [Soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Andrew Leahey
Like the High School Musical franchise, Glee became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Tuneful performances by Mark Salling (who plays Puck) and former boy band member Kevin McHale (the wheelchair-bound Artie) make a good argument for Glee being an ensemble production, but Lea Michele still receives top billing as Rachel Berry, and she sings circles around several of the pop stars whose songs are featured here.

    Music from "Glee" is inspiring!

I recently purchased the Season 1, CD 1 soundtrack from "Glee". I absolutely love the T.V. show and the music really makes the show memorable. The CD includes many great songs. My favorites are "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey and "Defying Gravity" - Wicked. These are very inspirational songs with great messages. Overall, the album is excellent for anyone who is a fan of "Glee" or anyone who enjoys popular music, a cappella renditions of songs, and musical theatre. I am looking forward to getting the Season 1, CD 2 soundtrack. I'm sure this album will be as good as CD 1! To all of you Glee fans out there - don't stop believing!

    Great CD

I love the show and had to have the CD. I really enjoyed listening to several old favorites in a new light. I enjoyed the CD as much as I enjoyed the show, and can't wait for more Glee CD's to come out.

    Glammed-up favorites

The talented stars of Glee turn catchy songs into musical theater-style show stoppers. With great production values, these familiar songs are well-packaged, fun versions of some favorites. And whether you are older and don't know Kanye West, or younger and don't know REO Speedwagon, you will enjoy this album. It's infectious.

And if you are a fan of the show, you already know what I mean!

    Good to listen to!

If you like the TV show, you'll love to listen to and sing along with the soundtrack - songs from the show. These are covers of popular songs, presented in a fresh version, very listenable and danceable. Some of the covers are better than the originals!

    GLEE: The Music, Vol.1

I am listening to this awesome CD as I write this review. I plan to buy Vol. 2 the next time I'm at Barnes and Nobles (which is about once every week). If you enjoy the show you will definitely love listening to this--I can almost see some of the original musical numbers as the cast is singing. It is uplifting and toe-tapping! You will not be disappointed.

If you loved the show, you'll love this CD!

The music from Glee season one was even better than when I first heard it on the TV show. Songs brought back images from the show and with the information on the CD, I got to know the singers better.

Hey, it's just a soundtrack album!

Extracts from the hit TV series. The usual group glam rock performances! It would have been nice to have a video track or two as bonuses. Musically it is.. GLEE. if you're a fan of the show you will love this album. If you're a purist for the original performances of these songs then keep walking. The arrangements are good but not spectacular. nevertheless, I enjoy it alot!

Great to listen to and remember the programs each song represented. This program puts a smile on my face...and the music does the same.

    I Also Recommend:

    Worth the price.

Overall I was very impressed with both the television show and this album.

I won't be specific about each individual song, because the CD covers a lot of songs and like many people I tend to strongly like some songs and just as strongly dislike others on an album that covers as much ground as
this. In other words, I thought some were really outstanding and others I didn't really like. And, of course, some of the songs work better in the context of the TV show.

In any case, I thought overall that the arrangements and voices were excellent (even on the songs I don't like), and that the CD was worth the money.

    Love GLEE soundtrack!

I have the GLEE 1 and 2 and they are both great. Good mixes of oldies, hip hop, rock, etc with their "mash-ups" that always get you singing along!
