Overview

Here is a small gift book of powerful sayings and quotes from the Draveckys and their mentors on the subject of suffering as the portal to heaven and hope beyond this life.

The journey of suffering brings with it a longing for heaven. For those who want encouragement for their journey, this jewel-like book will lighten the load and remind them of their heavenly hope. Written by two people whose personal journeys through pain brightened their vision of the world to come, Glimpses of Heaven is an uplifting collection of quotes and comments about heaven, laced with the powerful encouragement of Scripture. Drawing together the words of writers, theologians, humorists, and children, this addition to the recently introduced Encouragement category offers a collective insight into that place of promise and hope — heaven. Those who are facing difficult times — illness, grief, loss, suffering of any kind — will find ready encouragement in these pages. The uplifting quotes contained in Glimpses of Heaven offer hope, biblical comfort, and assurance in place of fear. Optimistic, yet willing to look at the difficulty of dealing with sorrow and pain, Glimpses of Heaven makes a wonderful gift for the ill or dying, reminding them of the promise of their heavenly home.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Once an allstar pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, Dave Dravecky lost the deltoid muscle in his pitching arm to cancer in 1988. Defying all the odds, he came back to pitch again a year later. Just five days after a stunning performance, securing a 43 win for his team, Dravecky sustained two successive and devastating injuries to his arm that ended his pitching career for good.

In subsequent years, Dravecky would lose his entire arm, his left shoulder blade, and the left side of his collarbone to cancer. But whenever God closes a door, he opens a window—and the window He opened for Dave led to a career as a bestselling author. Dravecky’s awardwinning first book, Comeback, sold over 650,000 copies.

An indemand speaker, Dave is known for delivering messages of hope and inspiration—to both Christian and secular audiences. Along with his wife, Jan, Dravecky is also the founder of Dave Dravecky’s Outreach of Hope, a nonprofit organization and ministry dedicated to helping cancer survivors.

When her husband’s cancer returned after a dramatic comeback with the New York Giants, Jan Dravecky spiraled into a deep depression—one —that refused to lift. As her mental condition darkened, Jan faced misunderstandings from wellintentioned friends and family —who admonished her to “snap out of it” or “pray through it.”

Jan’s journey back to happiness provides a powerful source of encouragement and faith to readers of every background. Today, Jan is coauthor of the wellregarded Christian titles Do Not Lose Heart and Stand By Me. She is also the cofounder of the nonprofit organization and ministry Outreach of Hope, dedicated to helping survivors of cancer.

Read an Excerpt

" . . . And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
What a wonderful blessing it is to know that we can live with God forever!
Yet heaven remains a mystery to us. We can't fully comprehend it, so we hesitate to discover it. We rarely give heaven a second thought until the pain and suffering of this life forces us to grasp for a greater hope.
Like so many others who have journeyed through suffering, Dave and Jan Dravecky have caught a glimpse of heaven's glory. They have drunk deeply of its comfort and hope. And they desire to help others discover the truth about heaven, experience the hope and comfort that heaven provides even in the midst of suffering, and look forward to the eternal home God has prepared for his children.
Opening the Bible to see what it reveals about heaven, Dave and Jan take you on a journey that will lift your spirit and make the vision and hope of heaven real to you. The Draveckys share the wisdom and insight of well-known people—Joni Eareckson Tada, R.C. Sproul, A.W. Tozer, C.H. Spurgeon, Billy Graham, and others—who have caught a glimpse of heaven from this life. And they have added the touching, triumphant stories of those who have watched their loved ones walk through heaven's gates.
Those who face the trials of illness, grief, and suffering will find ready encouragement within these pages. A caring gift for those who suffer, especially those who may be facing death, Glimpses of Heaven opens the gates of heaven for us to view and inspires us to live in light of its wondrous promise.
