This book is truly the most comprehensive book I've seen on gluten-free living. It's divided into 3 main sections: "Getting Started", "Living Gluten-Free" and "Resolving Complications". "Getting Started" lays the basics down for someone just starting out on this lifestyle (diagnosis, setting up your kitchen, meal planning), "Living Gluten-Free" is the next step on the journey (hidden gluten sources, dining out), and "Resolving Complications" gives some helpful tips to guide your friends and family on cooking/living gluten-free. What really makes this book stand out are two things: 1) The 125+ fabulous recipes that has ALL of the nutritional information listed on every recipe (I've yet to find someone who lists that information in a gluten-free cookbook!) 2) She includes dining out cards in 14 languages!! This really makes it easy to dine out no matter where you are in the world. All in all, I would definitely recommend this book no matter where you are on your gluten-free journey. It's packed with so much recipes and good information, who needs the internet when you have this book?

Gluten-Free Hassle Free is an excellent resource for those who need to avoid gluten due to Celiac disease or a non-Celiac gluten sensitivity. It was an honor to be able to help out with the revised addition. This book clearly explains which foods are safe to eat on a gluten-free diet. Marlisa explains how to shop for and prepare quite a variety of tasty gluten-free foods, and many easy to prepare recipes are included. A chapter about what to look for on food labels is included as well. The section about dining out on a gluten-free diet lists quite a number of restaurants, and gives great advice about what to ask for when calling ahead and speaking with the restaurant’s manager and chef. As a dietitian and instructor, I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to avoid gluten for health reasons and is not sure where to start.

INSIGHTFUL KNOWLEDGE FROM A COMPASSIONATE SOURCE Within the spectrum of food challenges, gluten sensitivity finally has a spokesperson with the education and personal experience  to guide individuals who are seeking relief from food sensitivities.   The time and expense of diagnostic testing is mitigated by this easy to read guide to eliminating gluten from the diet as either predecessor to formal diagnosis, or homespun help for those who  have been diagnosed. The introduction to Brown's hassle free work is straight to the point and honest. but compassionately so.  As she relates her own experience with Celiac Disease, she embodies not only the role of a caring educator, but a "friend you haven't met yet".  These factors play a critical role in any successful book that attempts to gain readership.  To be helped, most individuals must be able to relate to not only the material, but have a liking at some level for the author, and Brown succeeds in both areas. Support is given throughout the book, not only via accessible recipes that nearly anyone can enjoy, but through "dining dilemmas" (such as being out with friends who are not gluten sensitive) that provide workable solutions.  Emotional "hassles" are compassionately noted, and suggestions for working through them are provided. Gluten free living has begun to permeate supermarkets and restaurant menus, but Brown's capable effort delves into diverse areas, such as international dining.  She includes easy to print dining cards in languages ranging from Arabic to  Hindi and Mandarin Chinese. The book achieves its international goal double-fold as links to around the world celiac support are included.   The whys and wherefores of gluten free living are explored as completely and succinctly as possible in one book.   Taking into account the problems of the average individual, this book provides solutions and support to alleviate the stress that can worsen anyone's journey toward health.

Over 400 pages of comprehensive, and easy to read material. Great for those newly diagnosed with celiac, and for those who want to learn more about this ever-growing disease. Delectable recipes and great shopping tips as well as everyday information about how to explain this condition to others. As a mother of children with serious allergies who has made an "Alert for the Chef" card myself, I found the international cards invaluable for those traveling. This is a must read!!!
