Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Tucson Citizen, 12/1/12“I highly recommend this cookbook. The recipes are accessible and especially geared for people with busy lifestyles.”
Library Journal
While some readers may not appreciate Hunn's sometimes sarcastic, offhand style, these books and Hunn's blog (Gluten Free on a Shoestring) address an important concept: eating gluten-free can get very expensive. The more one can learn to reduce costs and keep food nutritious, the better. Hunn's books and blog have a strong following.

As someone who was NOT happy about having to go gluten free (I am a former restaurant owner and baker), I searched through hundreds of cookbooks to find ones that featured "real" food; stuff that looked and tasted like their glutenated counterparts that didn't call for six billion rare and expensive ingredients. I came across Nicole's first book, Gluten-Free on a Shoestring, Quick and Easy: 100 Recipes for the Food You Love--Fast! and it was the answer I had been looking for. Now, with this new book, there are even more great recipes, all of which fooled my family this weekend. Not one of the things I made screamed "gluten free" and my mom just about fainted away when she saw me enjoying the crackers I made for everyone, thinking I had accidentally eaten the "wrong ones". I especially love the recipes for everyday things like Vanilla Wafer cookies, flour tortillas and good dough to have on hand for pizza crusts, cinnamon rolls, etc. And the section for make your own mixes ALONE is worth the price of the book! My son is totally addicted to my "homemade" gluten free banana muffins that I often make with GF vanilla cake mix, at over five bucks a box! With Nicole's tireless experimenting and sourcing the best products to bring things together, I can now make a huge batch of cake mix, cookie mix, brownie mix and MORE and save money while putting in only the things that we know and love. I have already ordered four more copies of the book for my GF friends and relatives and it's going on my permanent must have list for new GF people I coach. Thank you, Nicole, for another fabulous resource for us GFree peeps!!!!

I love how there are mixes in the back so I can make up a cake mix when I have free time and the use them later when I'm in a rush. Plus naking these is much cheaper than buying them. The book pays for itself very quickly. I'm so thankful for it because its already saved me time and money!

A lot of recipes I'm interested in trying, but the green type is small and difficult to read and the book doesn't stay open to the page needed. While it's nice to know the cost per serving, I think the nutritional information would be of more use.

Just buy it.  It's great, and you'll use it more than almost any other GF cookbook you own.  Plus, there aren't a lot of bizarre ingredients that you can't find in normal grocer stores. Why 4 stars instead of five?  No pictures or nutrition info.  The pictures aren't a big deal, the the missing nutrition info is frustrating if you're counting calories. BTW, I just had the chicken pot pie for lunch, and it was DELICIOUS!
