Meet the Author

Scott and Lisa Hatch have prepared students for college entrance exams for over 25 years. While in law school in the late ’70s, Scott Hatch taught LSAT preparation courses throughout Southern California to pay for his education. He was so good at it that after graduation, he went out on his own. Using materials he developed himself, he prepared thousands of anxious potential test-takers for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT.
Years ago, Lisa took one of Scott’s LSAT preparation courses at the University of Colorado and improved her love life as well as her LSAT score. Lisa’s love for instructing and writing allowed her to fit right in with Scott’s lifestyle, teaching courses and preparing course materials. They married shortly thereafter.
Since then, Scott and Lisa have taught test preparation to students worldwide. Currently over 300 universities and colleges offer their courses online and through live lectures, and the Hatches have written the curriculum for both formats. The company they have built together, the Center for Legal Studies, provides not only standardized test preparation courses but also courses for those who desire careers in the field of law, including paralegals, legal secretaries, legal investigators, victim advocates, and legal nurse consultants.
Scott has presented standardized test preparation courses since 1979. He is listed in Who’s Who in California and Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, and he was named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America by the United States Jaycees. He was a contributing editor to The Judicial Profiler (McGraw-Hill) and the Colorado Law Annotated (West/Lawyers Co-op) series, and he was editor of several award-winning publications. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and his Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law.
Lisa has been teaching legal certificate and standardized test preparation courses since 1987. She graduated with honors in English from the University of Puget Sound, and she received her master’s degree from California State University. She and Scott have co-authored numerous law and standardized test texts, including Paralegal Procedures and Practices, published by West Thomson Publishing, and SAT II U.S. History For Dummies, SAT II Biology For Dummies, SAT II Math For Dummies, and Paralegal Career For Dummies, published by Wiley Publishing.

    Great Confidence Builder for a Daunting Test

    This book (edition by Lisa and Scott Hatch) is the one and only thing related to the GMAT that isn't intimidating. Anyone familiar with the "For Dummies" series knows that their claim to fame is their ability to break down complicated information into layman's terms, and this particular edition in the series certainly does not disappoint. The first few chapters are useful in that they offer guidance on how to maximize your score along with other practical standardized test-taking strategies, which made this book well worth the money spent. This was an excellent investment for my future grad school plans, and I recommend the book for anyone preparing to take a standardized test, particularly, the GMAT.

    This book was a waste of money for me.

    This book is really for super smart people, because I did not learn a thing. I actually ended up asking a High Schooler to let me use his Algebra, Calculus,and English Textbooks. These have been the best help and it was free! The most important thing one needs to know about the GMAT is the test strategies for the exam.

    I¿m studying your GMAT book and my quantitative skill is improving. Your book is easy to read and helps you with every step. First time I took a diagnostic test, I scored really low. After practicing, I feel pretty confident scoring a 500 or above. My dream goal is to become a CPA. I plan to go to St. Johns University-MBA program. I just have to say it¿s an excellent book for anyone who has low confidence about their test taking skills.     This is best GMAT prep text I've read!

    The book was easy to read and actually (gasp!) made studying for the GMAT enjoyable. The practice tests seemed to be at the same level as the actual GMAT, not harder and not easier. It was also very thorough. It gave me tips on how to deal with every question type on the GMAT. Plus, it included a math review (very helpful since I haven't had a math class in many years!) and a writing review for the essay section. This is a great prep tool. I feel much better about taking the GMAT now that I have studied from this book. Check out this new edition by new authors. You won't be disappointed!
