January 22
Had the dream again last night. Only, this time it was different. . . .

Faith has always been a loner. Growing up in a broken home in South Boston, shuffled from relative to relative, her only companion was an imaginary friend named Alex, who helped her escape into a fantasy world of monsters and the supernatural, far from the real-life horrors of the waking world.

Now, taken away from her mother by social services and shipped off to a foster home, Faith learns that some nightmares are all too real, that the inventions of her childhood really do haunt the night, hungry for blood. Enter Diana Dormer, a Harvard professor and representative of the Watchers Council who has come to tell Faith of her destiny, to train her, to prepare her for what is to come: Faith is the Chosen One. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness.

But she's not alone. When Alex, her childhood companion, returns in her dreams, she warns Faith that someone else is coming for her, a force so deadly and unforgiving that it has inspired fear in the underworld for a thousand generations. Its name is Malice.

As memory and fantasy begin to merge, Faith's two worlds collide, with cataclysmic results. A violent battle for the Slayer's soul is staged, winner take all.

This is her story. . . .

One of the Very Best Media-Tie In Books I've Ever Read

Media-tie in works are often a tricky thing. They're heavily controlled by those that control the franchise so usually don't have much opportunity to go beyond some very carefully drawn lines and have to be careful to reset to canon, which can make it very hard to allow characters to grow. This story however, goes beyond the usual for this sort of book. The Faith voice is pitch perfect, having read this book I'm never going to forget it and consider it part of my personal canon for Faith. I felt that, yes, this is the character--these events explain the girl we met in Season Three of Buffy. The book made me feel for Faith, made her real to me as this young Bostonian teen from a rough neighborhood who would have good reason to feel envy and disdain for a Buffy. Wonderful backstory and read, one that is genuinely emotionally moving.

    One Word - Fantastic!

I expected this book to be good, but when I opened the book and began reading I was sucked into anohter world - Faiths world. It explains in detail from Faith's point of view how she got her awesome tatoo and the reason she uses the phrase 'Five By Five' Go Ask Malice is an incredibly fast read and you wont want to put it down ( or end for that matter) This is written in diary form and that gives you the image that this really happened at some point in time. A great read for Buffy The Vamp slayer Fans everywhere

    I want to read this!!!

I only gave this book 4 stars because I haven't read it yet. I love the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, and Faith is my favorite character. I can't wait until this book comes out in stores. This should be good one to read. It talks about Faith's life before and after she trained to be the Slayer and then finally when she became the Slayer. It shows how hard her childhood was and growing up with so many issues in South Boston. Her childhood imaginery friend, Alex, appears in her dreams warning Faith that some monsters from her childhood might not just be in her mind. Definitly one to look into. Faith is the Slayer always saying 'Five by Five' but there is more to her as you will see in this book. A great read.
