Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"The canine cartoons make an elementary text funny and coherent and still one of the best around."—School Library Journal.
Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
This 50th Anniversary Edition brings back a beloved beginning reader for another generation to enjoy. Beginning with a single word, "Dog" and gradually adding 74 additional words, the text encourages children to increase their reading vocabulary. There is no plot, but plenty of action, as dogs are shown driving cars, riding roller coasters, rowing boats, swimming, riding a Ferris wheel, playing baseball, and skiing. A yellow dog is critical of a pink dog's hat in several scenes. There is a happy resolution in the end when a whole lot of dogs gather at the top of a big tree for a boisterous party. The concept of antonyms occurs throughout: "The green dog is up. The yellow dog is down." "A dog over the water. A dog under the water." The traffic light changes from green to red to green as the dogs go and stop and go. The comical illustrations add to the fun. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.

Unfortunately, this book cannot be downloaded to the nook app on the Ipad. Sad that I spent 13.99 on something I can't use. I wish they would make it clear which books are compatible with the Ipad Nook app.

Out of all the books my parents read to me as a kid, this is the one that stands out in my mind the most. It was, and still is, my favorite children's story. I love the dispute over the different hats of the colored dogs. I'm in college now, but I still enjoy reading this timeless book.

This book is an all time children's classic. So why is it $14 ? I mean seriously it's an awesome book to teach your kid to read but I don' t want to spend that much money on that. In my opinion all childrens books should be freeon the nook color that is. Its probally so expensive because on all the commercials for the nook color,Go Dog Go is on the nooks shelf. Great book though I would at least though have it be $2 .

I downloaded this book to my NOOK Color and it really turned out to be a treat. My niece really liked the narration and kept using the 'Read to Me' feature over and over. she specially liked opening and closing the text boxes and touching the play button to hear and read along with the narration.

As a kid, I worked my way through 2 copies of this book...and then my little sister did exactly the same thing! It helped me learn to read, and I loved the 'Do you like my hat?' segments. Now I buy it for all of my friends that are expecting little ones.

This interactive book is one of the reasons why I decided to purchase my nook. I love how there are activities to do within the book. It was worth the money to see the joy on my kids faces as they read and play with this story.

I just bought this book for my grandson's first birthday. I actually still have my own copy from childhood! A great addition to any children's personal library.

This is my 2 year old grandchildren's favorite book. I had to buy two since they are twins and were constantly fighting over who could read it.
