Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
PreS Daisy returns in an oversized board-book format. Children will recognize Simmons's charming illustrations from Come along, Daisy (1998) and Daisy and the Egg (1999, both Little, Brown). Here, the little yellow duckling "likes to play with the butterflies/and dance around the reeds" and "swim under water and/chase fishes through the weeds." But what she likes most is to sleep under Mama Duck's "soft, warm wing." In Go to Sleep, on three gorgeously rich and bright double-page spreads, Mama gently says, "Go to sleep, Daisy." But Daisy can't, because she hears the bats flit, the moths flutter, the swallows swoop, the owls hoot, the reeds creak, and the mice squeak. When, on the final pages, Mama whispers for her to "Look how bright the moon is," Daisy can't; she's fast asleep! The truly outstanding illustrations will capture the attention of babies, and the gentle, minimal text will appeal to toddlers with short attention spans. Daisy the Duck is a winner!

I stumbled upon this book at our public library and have since bought it and two other Daisy books. My eleven month old daughter loves these books! They are always the ones she brings to us and continously looks through them even on her own. The pictures are so vivid and the text simple and sweet! I just found a Daisy the Duck stuffed animal which is in her Christmas stocking! Also, it sounds like 'duck' is going to be one of her first words! Hats off to Jane Simmons!

    The Best Bedtime Story Ever!

My 2 1/2 year old absolutely loves this book! And guess what? I like it too! As all little kids do, she asks me to read the book two and three times in a row and it really doesn't irk me as much as some of the other top selling goodnight books. The creatures and their noises are a little above my little urbanite but any kid can mimick! It is short and sweet with a great ending. I recommend this to any parent who likes to read their child a bedtime story.
