Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Crowder
This shark's name is scary enough, and its looks are almost as fearsome. What is it? The goblin shark, the strangest shark in the sea, has a long head and tail that give this fish its odd shape. This book, part of a shark set published by Capstone Press, is filled with information about goblin sharks, albeit some of that information is based on scientific speculation. For instance, although most shark pups look like their parents at birth, no one has actually seen goblin shark pups. These deep-water sharks swim near the ocean bottom. Their mouths are lined with long, sharp teeth that stab prey (crabs, fish, and squid) like forks. Although these fish are as much as twice as long as humans, they pose little threat to divers. The book is full of photo illustrations and written with the help of Gail Saunders-Smith, Ph.D., and Jody Rake, member of the Southwest Marine/Aquatic Educators' Association. It includes lists of internet sites and books to read, a glossary, and an index. Reviewer: Judy Crowder
