Know anyone who needs a lift? a little hope? encouragement? This book will "fill the bill".... I have enjoyed reading the individual stories myself and shared them with family and friends. Each book in the series has brought requests for more from the elderly I read to at the nursing homes, and it is a perfect gift for family and friends that "have everything", those in the hospital, or as a perfect hostess gift, a "tuck in" with a get well or Thanksgiving basket. It's not often I get requests for the same gift so once again I plan to make this book "stocking stuffers" for everyone on my Christmas and Hanukkah gift lists. It's the kind of book where you feel you have met new friends who have looked into your life, experienced your kind of hurts, hopes and dreams and have "the rest of the story" - what happens when we "let go and let God." Last year's gift recipients told me they found the short stories perfect for their busy lives to enjoy with a lingering bath, a brief sunbathing, a long wait in traffic or at the doctor's office. More lasting than a "thought for the day calendar", this is not a read-it-once book! You'll find yourself going back time and again to revisit, ponder, and apply the results packed examples of faith and hope! I highly recommend every book in the series! Was this review helpful? Does a day go by without bad news on TV? Kidnappings. Terrorism. Floods. Shootings.I felt the need for some uplifting reading and I found it in God Allows UTurns, a woman's journey.
These are stories by real people who have faced problems in their lives and overcome. They are stories of hope and heart and inspiration. Each story is unique and can be read in order or any way you want. I like to read according to the title of the story. If it seems to say something to me I read it. Eventually I did finish the entire book because every story was special in its own way.
I can read a story in a few minutes or take the book with me when traveling. I can keep it on my desk at work and read during my break. For train or bus rides, this book is the best. It is light enough to enjoy despite the noise and people talking, and deep enough to bring tears to my eyes.
Delightful comes to mind but more than that. This is a book I will keep to reread. This is a book I will buy multiple copies of to give as gifts to my friends. I admit I enjoy these types of collections and have Chocolate for a Woman's Soul, Chicken Soup Books, and Guideposts books in my collections. I am a voracious reader and have stacks of nonfiction and fiction as well.
When I want to relax, when I want to feel peaceful, I turn to God Allows UTurns. There are three volumes now. I look forward to the next ones as well.We all need a resting place like this, an oasis of peace within the storm of everyday life. Thanks for reading my review.Bea S.Was this review helpful? I just finished reading the third book in this series. The true stories in this book were filled with such hope. These ordinary people showed me what real faith and love was all about. I was deeply touched. I had to have many tissues handy while reading this one. I'm looking forward to buying several copies of this one for family and friends for Christmas. This volume really reaches out to woman of all walks of life. I related to many of these stories. I can't wait for Volume four to come out at the end of the month.
