Children's Literature
Pastel colors of pink and blue greet the eyes of the reader immediately and continue to delight us as we read this bedtime prayer in rhyming verse. Cheerful children are being thankful for everyday things in their environment. This includes family life as well as nature. The illustrations are carefully counterbalanced on each page. We see day blending into night or the sea reaching the hillsides. We view nighttime breezes blowing through whispering forests or wild and tame animals returning to the safety of their homes. We read of caring relatives from near and far and pray for forgiveness for bad deeds we may have done. We pray that God will grant us a good rest so we may wake to another productive day. This is a very useful devotional book to use with young children. Parent and child can relate the day's happenings as they read and reread the prayer together. A good winding down activity that comforts at the end of the day. Excellent for church, and parochial as well as public libraries. 2001, Baker Books/Baker Book House, $9.99. Ages 4 to 9.
