I Wonder—Could God be like a rock?—or like a light?—or like the wind?

It isn't easy for a child to understand the nature of a complex God. But through His creation, the invisible God makes Himself known. Boys and girls can begin to understand the mystery of God by looking at the wonderful world He made. Rock, light, and wind reveal amazing secrets about who God is.

These three parables will open young minds and help boys and girls make their own first discoveries about God's rocklike steadfastness and faithfulness, the light of His love in Jesus, and the windlike power of His Spirit.

PreS-Gr 2-The metaphorical concepts of God as a rock, Jesus as the light of the world, and the Holy Spirit as the wind are presented in three simple stories. A Caucasian boy grows up playing around a large, immovable boulder that protects him and his sand-castle cities from threatening imaginary beasts. He wonders-"could God be like a rock?" A lit candle ignites many others and then becomes a warm, comforting fire, as a little African-American girl has imaginary adventures in which she helps others while she camps out with her father. Is Jesus like light, dispelling darkness, she wonders? The wind buoys a flying squirrel, whips up whitecaps, scatters seeds, and pushes a young Asian-American boy's sailboat. Is God like the wind, unseen and powerful, he wonders? A Bible quotation follows each parable. The clearly written, handsomely designed text is superimposed in black or white upon soft-toned, double-page watercolor paintings of appealing children and animals.-Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|
