    Adventure and Inspiration

Bill Scott was a little Irishman. Joyce was a Pennsylvania Dutch girl. They were headed for India to be missionaries, traveling on the same boat in 1954. The great virtue of this book is that it tells their story in their own words, as told in interviews with a newsman who worked for CBS for 12 years. The romance, the adventure, the miracles are all amazing. The short version of the 50 years is that they got married shortly after they got there, and eventually built a huge organization that multiplied the distribution of Christian literature in India by a factor of 2000. It starts with handling cobras in the bathroom of their village hut, and grows to creating a radically innovative approach to missions, which includes giving away money to churches in the United States. It also includes giving away sewing machines and rickshaws in India, and running literacy programs which the government of India has hailed as more effective than their own. The stories along the way have to be read to be believed, but if you read them you will believe them. It's not really a 'read ' it's listening to two amazing people telling their amazing story.
