I got the book God Loves Me More Than That by Dandi Daley Mackall in the mail two days ago, and my 4-year-old doesn't want to put it down. As soon as she got up from her nap, she was drawn to it because of the beautiful cover (that and she loves new books). She informed me that I had to read it to her right away. We both loved the great illustrations and the simple yet engaging rhymes.
The book flowed very well and really showed the aspects of God's love for us. Her favorite rhyme is "Is God's love soft? Won't you tell me, please?.Much, much softer than a kitten's sneeze." My favorite part is the illustrations. They have just the right level of detail to convey the point without being overwhelming.
Having an emerging reader, I appreciated the level of the words. I think soon she'll be reading it to me!

When do you know that a children's book is a hit in your house? For me, it is when my nephews want it read to them again, and my 6 year old has to read it himself. That is the case with Dandi Daley Mackall's "God Loves Me More Than That."
The story is about the depth, width, height and length of God's love for a young boy. With short, snappy sentences, the author creates a sense of urgency for the answer to each question about the nature of God's love for his children. The illustrations capture the mind and imagination of children from ages 9 months to 6 years, vivid and inviting, allowing my crew to find something new each time we read. The message is plain: God's love is greater for you than you can imagine.
This is one that we will add to our read aloud library, read again library of books.

How much does God love me? More than the bumbles in a bumblebee. His love is wider than the prairies, softer than a summer breeze, and deeper than a wishing well.
These are just a few of the cute rhymes that comprise God Loves Me More Than That. Dandi Daley Mackall, author of this book, leads children on a journey to understand God's love for them. Based on Ephesians 3:17-19, the book takes a well-known Scripture and expands on it using language familiar to children.
God Loves Me More Than That is an adorable children's book that teaches a lesson that many adults still need to learn. This book provides parents with the perfect opportunity to instill spiritual lessons to children at a young age. The illustrations match well with the text and theme of the book. I especially liked the hippo and butterfly illustrations. I can wholeheartedly recommend this book to any parent looking to teach their child about God's love.

God Loves Me More Than That is such a sweet book. It paints a picture of God's Love in a way that even the youngest children can easily understand. My boys loved for me read this story to them as we snuggled close to bedtime. God Loves Me More Than That has become one of their favorite books. The illustrations by David Hohn are terrific. The bright colors along with the easy to memorize rhymes just draw children in to this book. Children will feel like they are on an adventure to discover how much God truly loves them. This book will make a perfect addition to your bedtime storytelling ritual.

I'd like to recommend a children's book to you called God Loves Me More Than That by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by David Hohn.
This is a rhyming book of comparisons to show the width, depth, weight, and loudness of God's love. The author uses comparisons with things a child can relate to and understand to remind them how much God loves them. The illustrations are beautiful to see with the colors and details. It is appropriate for toddlers through kindergartners in my opinion, although the message and pictures will be enjoyed by anyone. I also like the size of this book; it is just right for a child to hold and enjoy, not too big as some books are hard for a little one to hold and turn the pages easily.
Thank you to WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for providing this book to me for my honest review.

What an absolutely adorable book! An instant favorite at our house.
God Loves Me More Than That explores how much, high, wide, big, loud, and soft God's love is for a young child, for all of us. Through cute rhymes and comparisons that are familiar to a child (a cheering crowd, buzzing bee, kitten's sneeze, ...) Mackall introduces children to the many ways we might begin to understand how big and great God's love for us is - much more than we can understand.
Illustrations are realistic in that they feature a young boy in each situation interacting with our familiar world. Cartoonish in that the situations depicted are not always something we can do (ride on a bee). Colors are bright and engaging, fun and whimsical, delightful to look at and offering many ideas to discuss along the way.
The message is sound and easy for a young child to understand. The rhymes and fast moving pace keep even young children, toddlers and babies interested. Great for ages 2-6, adaptable either way. Such a simple message yet so profound and important to the curious little minds who hear and read this book. I absolutely recommend this with my highest ratings to every family!

Written by Dandi Daley Mackall and beautifully illustrated by David Hohn, "God Loves Me More Than That" is a children's book that seeks to explain God's love in ways that they can understand. Children seem to learn by comparing things they already know. The author takes this idea and creates an adventure that takes the children through all the ways that God loves them.
The book is s written as a poem with each verse of the poem ending with "God loves me more than that." Based on Ephesians 3:17-19 from the Bible, which describes God's love, each four pages of the book explores a different aspect of God's love. The author accomplishes this by answering the questions:
How much does He love me?
How high is His love?
How deep is His love?
and How wide is His love?
We read this book to our daughter who loved it. The illustrations are beautiful and can easily be enjoyed by boys and girls under 8. Young children will especially love the rhyme. My daughter enjoyed anticipating for us to get to the line "God love me more than that" every time. It was like she was taking in what we said and then smiled and giggled when we said that God loves her. Just an amazing time and a fun read. I recommend this book to all families with young children. Both parents and children will love to read this together. It can easily become one of your favorite books!

My first review for Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing Group is God Loves Me More Than That by Dandi Daley Mackall (ill. by David Hohn). In order to properly review a children's book I engaged the help of 3 of my sons - ages 7, 4 and 19 months. The book was a hit!
Ms. Mackall's book is based on Ephesians 3:17-19 and discusses the measure of God's love for his children. Her comparisons were easy to understand and very imaginative. The book opens the door for exploration and discussion with children as they try to grasp how big God is and how much He loves us.
My 7 year old was delighted that he could read the book himself and to his younger brothers. My 4 year old enjoyed the comparisons of love "more than the bumbles in a bumble bee" and he adores rhyming books. The book's beautiful illustrations were loved most by my 19 month old. He pointed at the pictures with great enthusiasm. It now holds a place among our "favorites" on their library shelf.
God Loves Me More Than That would make an excellent gift to any family with younger children (under age 8). It would make a lovely addition to a starting library for a newborn. I look forward to reading and reviewing other titles by Ms. Mackall.

"God Loves Me More Than That," written by Dandi Daley Mackall and illustrated by David Hohn, seeks to illustrate the size of God's love for us by drawing fun comparisons between simple, everyday occurrences and our Father's compassion. Storyline This book, comprised of simple rhymes, follows a young boy as he looks beyond the ordinary to see how God's love surpasses all. He sees that God's love is high, "higher than the moon in a starless sky!" and wide, "wider than the prairies where the cowboys ride." Each page introduces a new, completely original explanation for the extent of God's love. Illustrations Hohn's illustrations could not possibly be any better. A new perspective is offered on each page, putting the boy in a colorful world where he finds himself right at home. He goes from the deep sea to a three-ring circus and everywhere in between. The color and light on each page is flawless. I could go on and on about how great these illustrations are. Engaging, Interactive, Inspiring? Our three-year-old really enjoyed this book. Mackall offers something completely new on every page. It's almost like a surprise. A question introduces each new concept inviting the little readers to consider, "Just how much does the Lord's love weigh?" The combination of the creative rhymes and the vibrant illustrations make this book both engaging and inspiring. Final Thoughts This book introduces the most important concept your children should understand-God's love for them surpasses everything imaginable. I appreciated the inclusion of Ephesians 3:17-19 at the beginning of the book. Mackall has rooted this book in the truth of scripture. It's no wonder why both author and illustrator are award winning. I highly recommend it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This is a sweet book about God's love and its greatness being explained to a child. A question about the expanse of God's love is asked and then answered with comparisons that a child may be able to grasp. Wider than a prairie, heavier than an elephant, higher than the moon, etc. This is a short book with only one sentence per page, but the pages are full of colorful pictures. I read this with my 4 1/2 year old son and he enjoyed it, especially the 'wider than a semitruck from side to side' page, because he likes all things truck related! After reading this, he talked a lot about us loving each other and God loving us, in the same form as the book (ie. larger than, higher than.). A cute book for children and good to discuss Gods great love for them. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I am a Mom of two boys. The main character is a boy which is hard to find sometimes in books that talk about the softer sides of life. The pictures and vocabulary are unique and the message of God's love is very strong. It is also FUNNY and entertaining for all types of boys. Was this review helpful?
