Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Skiff, an award-winning investigative journalist and correspondent for CNN, compiles an inspiring if uneven assortment of real-life accounts of meeting with the divine. Whether readers are actively religious or die-hard skeptics, the stories recounted will reaffirm God's existence and intervention in human affairs. Skiff draws upon such themes as listening to God's voice, answers to prayer, healing and confirmation of an afterlife. While less spiritually inclined readers may find some stories more attributable to coincidence than divine intervention, other tales are beyond rational explanation. In one account, a woman who had irreparable brain and organ damage was completely healed and discharged from the hospital after prayer. A man felt an urgent caution against taking an airline flight on which nine people were subsequently killed. In a similar tale of miraculous warnings about danger, a woman heard an audible voice tell her to stop right before she stepped in front of a seven-foot Australian snake's mouth. Mysterious and faith-inspiring, these stories are valuable even if some don't conform to readers' particular religious beliefs. (Nov. 11)

“Whatever your personal beliefs, this book is a perfect way to explore and discuss your own relationship with the spiritual.”
Redbook

God Stories arrives at a perfect time. With each of us struggling to find our personal missions and how to manage the madness of everyday life, this book reminds us that clues, signs, and moments can be found everyday showing us that God is here. God Stories is a book filled with fabulous true stories. With the increasing hunger to find peace, spirituality, and personal mission, this book shows us we're not alone in that journey. God Stories arrives at a perfect time recounting those almost unbelievable moments when others were touched and moved in the right direction.”
—Carole Tomko, Executive Vice President, Discovery Networks

“Faith can’t necessarily be explained no matter what religion you are but there are examples where faith has moved mountains for people. This book helps people to understand, from whatever religious perspective they have, that there is someone watching over you.”
—Alan Bond, America’s Cup Winning Yachtsman

“Just when you thought life's journey was the solitary plodding of one day unconnected to the next; God Stories reveals the golden threads that link lives and loves and give us strength to weave a beautiful tapestry.”
—Carolyn O’Neil, Former Executive Producer & Senior Correspondent CNN Television

God Stories is proof positive that God - whatever else He or She may be- is one helluva storyteller. Transcendent reading.”
—Susan Maushart, author of The Mask of Motherhood, Wifework, and What Women Want Next

“Here's one thoughtful, readable and thoroughly engaging approach to understanding the phenomenon of faith and inspiration, the existence of which we cannot dispute, but the sources of which are a constant wonder.”
—Becky Madeira, Vice President, Pepsico

“I'm not a believer - so God Stories and spiritual experiences I usually take as proof of people's willingness to believe anything, no matter how nonsensical and silly. These tales bought to us by Jennifer Skiff are not silly. If you abstract the religious elements you are left with people at a point in their lives where they discover optimism and joy. There is not enough of either in the world and we need more people to affirm ‘Yes life is worth living’. These stories do just that.”
—Guy Brooke, The Earl of Warwick

God Stories are the stuff of life and living. Reading this book is a touching and soul penetrating experience.”
—Mark Victor Hansen, Co-creator, #1 New York Times best selling series Chicken Soup for the Soul ® and co-author, Cracking the Millionaire Code and The One Minute Millionaire

“At the beginning of the twentieth century William James wrote an important book on the varieties of religious experience. Now, a century later, Jennifer Skiff has collected a variety of early twenty- first century accounts of religious experience, all helpfully organized in themes. These give us some direct insight into the ways in which different people interpret their human experiences, particularly unexpected and unusual experiences, and how they do this religiously. If a miracle is defined as any unusual or unexpected occurrence that brings a person to a heightened awareness in time of the presence of the eternal God and of the ultimate mystery of life, then the clear conclusion is that 'miracles do happen!' Those whose trade is in abstract theology will be inspired and impressed by the degree of religious conviction that can be triggered by concrete religiously interpreted experience.”
—Peter Carnley, Co-Chair of the Anglican Roman Catholic International Commission

“My eyes filled with tears and my heart lifted as I read God Stories. Jennifer Skiff has presented us with a wide range of heavenly touches, everything from quiet hugs to stunning out-of-body experiences, and readers of all faiths will be moved. As the praise song goes, "Our God is an awesome God!" Each page of this beautiful book attests to that.”
—Joan Wester Anderson, author of Where Angels Walk and Angels and Wonders

“A bouquet of inspiring stories...for the believer and nonbeliever alike.”
—Julia Cameron, bestselling author of The Artist’s Way

"The idea first came to me when a minister asked if I had any 'God Stories.' I asked her what she meant, and she explained that a God Story was a miracle-like experience that proves God exists. . . . I did have stories. I hadn't dared to tell many people about them, but I definitely had had what I believed to be encounters with the Divine. I wondered if many other people had stories too. What happened next surprised me most. I realized that a Divine intelligence that many people call God is connecting with millions of people every day. These are their stories."

    Emotionally Uplifting and Inspirational

I received this book three days ago; I couldn't wait to read through it. Some stories brought me to tears while others made me smile. Jennifer Skiff has done an amazing job of editing the 138 different personal experiences sent to her. It was quite a task! From beautiful rainbows appearing in a dark and dreary sky, to out-of-body experiences, healings, and 'quiet hugs' given through a voice from above, you'll find yourself comforted and wanting to read more. It's truly a book about God and Divine intervention. I believe everyone, sooner or later, will have a 'God Story' of their own...just listen for it.

Jennifer Skiff's "God Stories" touches the Heart

"God Stories" by Jennifer Skiff is a beautiful and poignant collection of inspirational stories that open our hearts and touch our spirit. I enjoyed her book so much that I invited her to be on my radio show, "Going Beyond Medicine". I have and will continue to recommend this book, as it brings us closer to understanding that we are never alone, even when we think we are. Touching and memorable.

    When in Search of peace...

I have had this book for a little over a year, now. I use it as a gentle reminder and stablizer for the ups and downs of my life. When I feel frantic or discontent with it all -- I read a couple of the "God Stories" and it gives me that reminder of the mysteries of life, the unexplainable...the no real rational reason for...It reminds me to seek the divine. It's very healing.

    Uplifting & Validating

I can't wait until the author comes out with another book. I felt so good after I would read each story that I couldn't get enough. It totally validates my belief in God and divine intervention.

    Wonderful Collection

No matter what your religious or spiritual beliefs, (or lack thereof), you will be moved by the stories in this book. Jennifer Skiff has collected a plethora of diverse spiritual encounters by a cross section of humanity. Some of the experiences described are subtle and some will shake you to the core. Each story you read will impel you to turn to the page for the next installment. I tried to ration myself to 3 stories a night but found myself staying up late turning more and more pages. Thank you Jennifer for bringing these stories to light.

TRULY A EYE OPENER,ONE BOOK YOU WILL NOT PUT DOWN AND WILL READ AGAIN AND AGAIN

I recieved my copy from jennifer after telling her that I was in Baghdad,Iraq and ordering one is hard to do,not knowing whether or not you will get something. I was crying after reading some of the stories. Not from sadness but from the joy that I felt at hearing others share their"God Story". For so long I had kept from telling people mine because of the looks, the snears, the remarks people would say. I submitted mine to Jennifer after not telling anyone for a long time. I'm BACK sharing mine again. I have read the book over and over. It fills my heart with peace and happiness, something that has been missing for so long.I now know what I needed to do. You will not be able to stop reading this book. For some they will know, that they too, have a story to share. Those who thought,"it was just a coincidence" "I was lucky",they are the ones that will stop and rethink,"was it luck,Divine intervention,GOD,guardian Angel, what did happen?" If you never believed before, never thought about it before, YOU WILLafter reading this book. Jennifer,I thank you you have given me the strength I had lost.

Proof of God's Hand in our daily lives

Jennifer has captured and brought together too many individual's stories to deny the hand of God in our everyday lives. Any doubt is erased after reading the numerous accounts of how he intervenes at the right moment. Her book is a faith builder, and empowering tool for anyone who's spiritual spark needs re-igniting. Whether attacked by an illness, or an emotional low in your life, Jennifer's book will take your mind off the negative and put it back on the positive. God is ready, willing, and able to meet your every need, if you just believe and seek his hand in your life. God Stories makes an excellent gift. I love to share my faith by giving to others what has helped me so much.

    I Also Recommend:

Inspirational, But Not Quite as Advertised

Jennifer Skiff's claim that each story here is one "that proves God exists" is a bit hyperbolic. True, many of the experiences seem genuinely spiritual in nature, but others could be explained away by coincidence or simple emotional response. Nevertheless, the stories are all moving, and those interested in reading of others' personal experiences with spirituality will find this rewarding.

    Great Book

This is a collection of stories of real people who had experiences where they actually felt God moving in their lives. Some of them were simple feelings, some of them were outright miraculous. It was a great read for times when it's hard to see God working in the world.

I heard Jennifer Skiff on the Jordan Rich Show and felt an instant connection to her and her book. I was blessed to receive a copy of her book from Jordan Rich and read and re-read it as a reminder of how God is present everywhere, all the time in our lives if we only awaken to experience God. Jennifer has compiled God Stories from ordinary people who opened their hearts and spirits to receive God's grace. Through the sharing of these God Stories Jennifer continues to bless my life and fans the flames of faith within me.

God Stories is a wonderful inspirational book.

I loved this book, which is actually a collection of people's experiences in which they have received some sort of sign from God indicating that they have been heard, that they are going in the right direction or just loved. I've had experiences similar to the ones detailed in this book but I've never heard of anyone else that has. I feel great knowing there is something else beyond this world and the people I've lost are nearby. This is a wonderful touching book.

    God Stories

I was disappointed in this book. Not terribly inspirational and felt that some of the stories to be unreal and far fetched. There were a couple that were inspiring, but that was all. No chills in it for me as I was let to believe there would be.
