Only then did he discover what relaxing in Jesus means and how enjoying God’s intimate presence can transform everyday life.

God without religion? Andrew Farley’s experience as a Christian was first characterized by self-effort as he tried to please God at any cost. His ruthless religion resulted in spiritual fatigue and disillusionment with church. Only then did he discover what relaxing in Jesus means and how enjoying God’s intimate presence can transform everyday life. Using a story-driven format, God without Religion dismantles common religious misconceptions, revealing: • a hopeful approach to what unites us rather than what divides us • the true meaning of walking by the Spirit • the facts about judgment, rewards, and God’s discipline • the problem with the popular challenge to “die to self”. Pulling no punches, Andrew shows how the truth about these controversial issues can liberate and unify believers as we discover how to rest in the unconditional love of God.

This is a fantastic book for those who really want to learn about what Christianity means after Jesus's death and resurrection! It helps readers understand the difference between the Old and New Covenant and how to practically live our your Christian faith. It is a very liberating book! As another reviewer said, "The Truth will set you free!" This is so true as you read this book. Enjoy!!

I was broken, by my own legalism and the legalism of those around me. Several years ago, God spoke a word into my heart and that word was Grace. Since then, God has been gently removing my misconceptions about Him and helping me to see who He really is, all that He has done for me though His Son, and who I am because of what He has done for me. "God Without Religion" has been an important part of that journey. This book takes a close look at scripture, especially the book of Hebrews, to show us what it means to be a child of God under the New Covenant of His Grace. If you are desperate for Grace, if you feel like there must be more to the Christian life then what you are experiencing now, if you are tired of feeling insecure in your relationship with God, then I highly recommend "God Without Religion". Andrew's writing has helped me to see God's word with new eyes, and the truth is better than I could have ever imagined!

You have to read this book if you want to learn what God truly wants for you, and did for you. I learned so much about the new covenant. Out of all the churches I've ever been to, none of them teaches this truth! Once you read this, and check your Bible for its truth, you'll never feel burdened again. I've have never felt so enlightened as I did after reading this. I'm ordering his other books too, and I'm very excited about reading my Bible again. I'm going to dump "religion" and just focus on Jesus from now on. God bless you all!

This book is absolutely amazing; it set me free. Dr. Farley, by simply teaching through the lens of Jesus Christ and the new covenant, completely upended everything I thought I knew about the Christian life. He helped me realize I had been trying to live a works-gospel, and was failing miserably. Whether you agree with every one of his points or not, every Christian needs to read this book--no question. I highly recommend his podcast as well. P.S. Dear 1- and 2- star reviewers: your bad rating doesn't help anyone if you don't give a reason. If you leave it blank, I just assume Farley rocked your world and you don't know how to refute it. Which is like 6 stars. Just sayin'...

This is an absolutely amazing book. It is a must read. It has brought back the joy in my faith. I used to follow the tenants of Reformed Calvinism; trying to prove to myself and others of my salvation (essentially by works under the name-tag - "Grace"). I would try really hard, become frustrated and disgruntled with Christianity, and then, pull away from my Church. I would realize I really love my relationship with God, come back to Church, and do it all over again. The process was exhausting and resulted in no joy. Once day, a friend introduced me to Dr. Farley's books. I read Naked Gospel, this book, and Heaven is Now. The completed work of Christ on cross suddenly made sense (in application to my life). It felt like a huge burden was lifted. I am finally able to experience the joy of Christ and Christianity.

Farley's first book, 'The Naked Gospel', is a book that has opened the eyes of so many believers around the world to the Truth of the Gospel, aside from tradition and assumption. It has liberated many from the shackles of religious duty and obligation and ushered in understanding of God's Love in the hearts and minds of Christians everywhere. His second book, 'God without Religion', hammers the final nails into the coffin of works-salvation. Farley adeptly moves through the book of Hebrews to illustrate the profound differences between the Old and New Covenants, the complete break from what was, to what IS in Jesus Christ: The Reality of the New Covenant. he does not limit himself to mere theological exposition, but delineates clearly just what the Gospel means for believers today - and illustrates just how deficient many understandings of Christianity are. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship of love. For so long, Christian tradition has maintained that to be right with God, to be in fellowship with Him, as a believer, is dependant on what you DO, how much you sacrifice for Him, how much you love Him, having the perfect doxology etc...yet this is far from what Scripture teaches on salvation. It's all about WHO you are, and WHAT you are, in Christ. Farley's exposition of Scripture is excellent, moving throughout the Bible with ease, piecing together the Truth so that it does not require a theological degree to understand what he is saying. I spent years in a false gospel of works, condemning myself and everyone around me every time perfection was not reached in our efforts towards pleasing God. His face was constantly turned from me, as a vile sinner who just couldn't do the right thing no matter how hard she tried...in my mind, I was constantly in danger of losing my salvation - quick! Better apply the confessional cure-all to save myself again! Finally everything came crashing down around me, I burned-out in my own self-effort to please God. My gospel was reliant on me and me alone. Christ's sacrifice was there to help me, his sacrifice meaning no goat required, but ultimately, it was all up to me to perform right...and I KNEW I was not capable of it. Years of trying with failure after failure. My gospel that was heavily reliant on the Law to keep myself 'right' with God was crushing me. I read words in Scripture about the Gospel being liberating, that His yoke is easy and burden light...and I understood none of it. To me, Christianity was a soul-crushing experience. The only thing that kept me going was the fear of Him throwing me into Hell. God was like an angry dictator who expected complete perfection, and I was a failure. I knew it. It was then, at my realisation (after many years) of my own inability, my complete brokenness, that God stepped-in and I came across Farley's books. To see the true Gospel truly brought me to tears. I finally came to understand the Truth of Christ's sacrifice. That NONE of us are able to keep the Law perfectly, as it needs be kept...but Christ WAS and IS perfect, He did it all FOR US. I was working to achieve what Jesus had already achieved for me, on my behalf, over 2,000 years ago! I cannot recommend this book highly enough. To this day, after 8 months of reading many books on the Gospel of Grace, who is Christ, this remains my favourite of them all. Easy to read, detailed, and will knock your theological socks off and transform your Christian walk!

When I was reading Andrew's first book The Naked Gospel for the first time I was reading it in electronic format. In the ebook version it wasn't as clear when he started to quote scripture until I got to the end of the quote and it had the scripture reference. Time and time again I would be reading and find myself thinking "wow, that is a pretty radical statement" and then boom there would be a scripture reference. I would have to put down the book and grab my Bible I was so stunned. Does it really say that? No way, I have read the New Testament before, it doesn't say that... and it would be there. I would read the verses before and after to see, maybe he was changing the context. Nope, it was in the context he gave. The times when I would most think that he was saying something super crazy that was when he wasn't saying anything but simply quoting a Bible passage. It wasn't Andrew at all that was radical, it was the Gospel and I had missed it. This book goes more in depth and answers many of the questions he received after writing The Naked Gospel and is truly amazing. Thank you Lord for using Andrew and his books to show me that which I was missing when I read your word and may you use me to reveal your truth to those that come into my life.

If you want to know what to do/think between the time you received Christ Jesus and when you go to heaven, this is the book for you. If you think God gave you His Spirit so you could obey the Law, this book will help you understand He lives in us to produce His fruit which is so much better. Get ready to start enjoying all He came to give us.

Not quite finished with this book, but am finding it interesting and very thought provoking. I'm not sure that I agree with the author on everything, but I enjoy the challenge of thinking this through and letting God work this out for me. I'd highly recommend this to challenge your thinking and the "religiousity" that Christianity has become.
