Overview

God's Daily Promises contains daily promises from the Bible for every day of the year, presented in a “through the year” format. It focuses on life-related topics that hold great interest for everyone, topics like acceptance, brokenness, calling, comfort, crisis, decisions, doubt, endurance, giving, healing, hurts, loss, love, miracles, mistakes, planning, purpose, risk, romance, stress, temptation, tragedy, and wisdom. Imagine if every morning we could be inspired by a promise of God's Word and then live the rest of the day in expectation of God fulfilling that promise or with a new sense of confidence and trust that the promise has indeed been fulfilled. These little but powerful books (God's Daily Promises, God's Daily Promises for Leaders, God's Daily Promises for Students, God's Daily Promises for Women, God's Daily Promises for Men) will help people think throughout the day about how God cares for them and will inspire them to see how God intervenes in their lives. Chapter One

January 1

Beginnings

Today's Promise

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. -Lamentations 3:23

Today's Thought

Life consists of a series of new beginnings; it's your attitude toward them that makes all the difference. Each day provides new opportunities for you to get to know God better and to start over with new resolutions about how you will respond to circumstances and people. God's mercy is new every day, no matter what you've done or how you've treated him the day before. With God's forgiveness, you don't have to be burdened by yesterday's failures or regrets.

Today's Plan

Do you extend new mercies each day to the people you love and live with, just as God extends new mercies to you?

January 2

Transformation

Today's Promise

I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. -Philippians 1:6

Today's Thought

From the minute Godbegins a "good work" in you, he promises to continue working in you for the rest of your life, transforming every aspect of your heart and your character. He will show you how to become more like him in your relationships, work, service, and love. If you ask him to work in you every day, you will be amazed at what you have become when he finally takes you home to be with him forever.

Today's Plan

What work does God need to do in you today? Are you open to his working in you?

January 3

Goals

Today's Promise

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. -Proverbs 16:9

Today's Thought

Goals give you direction. You may have a lot of goals for different areas of life (including those New Year's resolutions you made), but following God should be your primary, overarching goal. You do not know what the year ahead will bring, but if the Lord determines your steps and you are following where he leads, you can be sure that your life will have purpose. In addition, when you keep your eyes on the goal, you will not stray from God, regardless of what difficulties you encounter.

Today's Plan

What kind of goal will it take to keep you following God closely each day?

January 4

Call of God

Today's Promise

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. -Romans 12:2

Today's Thought

When God is ready to call you to a specific task, he will keep interrupting your thoughts. Your heart will long to do what God wants you to do; you will know it is what you should do. Then opportunities to serve will follow. Seize the moment, and follow God's call. Don't let a window of opportunity close and miss all that God has in store for you as you follow his call.

Today's Plan

Are you listening for God's call to you?

January 5

Decisions

Today's Promise

God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16

Today's Thought

Despite the fact that change is a certainty in the world around you, you can always be truly secure about two things: First, when you make decisions and live each day based on the changeless truths of God's Word, you have complete assurance that you are doing the right thing. Second, when you have made the decision to follow Christ, who died and rose to give you new life, you can be absolutely sure that your eternal future with him in heaven is secure.

Today's Plan

Are you making sure that you are first making decisions about life's most important issues?

January 6

Affirmation

Today's Promise

God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. -Genesis 1:27

Today's Thought

When God created you, he affirmed you. He created you for a specific reason and purpose: to reflect his glory and characteristics. When you struggle with discouragement, remember how you have been created in God's likeness.

Today's Plan

Spend some time thinking about the qualities of God. You have many of these same qualities. Will you reflect them toward others?

January 7

Guidance

Today's Promise

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. -Proverbs 16:9

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. -Proverbs 3:5-6

Today's Thought

God's guidance is less like a searchlight, which brightens a wide area, and more like a flashlight, which illuminates just enough of the path ahead to show you where to take the next few steps. God has a definite plan for you. Never doubt that. But he usually doesn't reveal it all at once. He wants you to learn to trust him each step of the way.

Today's Plan

Where is God asking you to trust his guidance today?

January 8

Goals

Today's Promise

All of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. -1 Peter 3:8-9

Today's Thought

Although it's good to have big goals, it's also important to set smaller daily goals. Being kind and humble toward others, doing good when someone takes advantage of you, reading your Bible, or offering encouragement may seem to be small goals when compared with loftier ones, but they become the essential building blocks of all that God wants you to accomplish.

Today's Plan

What "small" goals can you set for yourself today?

January 9

Coping

Today's Promise

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. -Proverbs 3:6

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. -Matthew 6:33

Today's Thought

When life seems overwhelming, what can help you to cope with the stress of living in a culture that tends to view busyness as something to be admired? The key is to set your priorities early. If you make time with God and his Word your first priority, you will gain a godly perspective on your activities for the rest of the day.

Today's Plan

Is God first on your daily agenda?

January 10

Prayer

Today's Promise

I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! -Psalm 116:1-2

Today's Thought

God listens carefully to every prayer and answers it. His response may be yes, no, or wait, the same way any loving parent would respond to a child. Answering yes to every request would spoil you and be dangerous to your well-being. Answering no to every request would be vindictive and stingy and would kill your spirit. Answering wait to every prayer would be frustrating. God always answers based on what he knows is best for you. When you don't get the answer you want, you will grow in spiritual maturity as you try to understand why God's answer is in your best interest.

Today's Plan

How can you be more spiritually sensitive to recognize God's answer to each of your prayers?
