Overview

An easy way to help young boys see God’s promises and how they can rely on His love in their daily lives.

The promise verses in this book are selected from the bestselling International Children’s Bible®
to offer comfort and encouragement when a boy is feeling afraid,
lonely, worried, angry, dissatisfied, discouraged, sad, rebellious,
impatient, or sick . . . and when they need reassurance of God’s protection, love, forgiveness, help . . . and that He listens when they pray. It’s a great way for children to hide God’s Word in their hearts.

Sample text: Sometimes it’s hard to tell the truth when you feel like you have something to hide. But remember—when it’s hard to be honest: God promises to reward Truth—not Lies!

"You must do these things to enjoy life and have many happy days. You must not say evil things.
You must not tell lies." Psalms 34:12-13

Chapter One

God's Promises When ...

You Want to Be Cool

Stylin', chillin', and rollin' your way Are fine when you're breaking no rules. But helpin', respectin', and followin' God's ways Are the only way to be coooool.

Do not be shaped by this world. Instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you. And you will be able to know what is good and pleasing to God and what is perfect.

Romans 12:2

* * *

So through Jesus let us always offer our sacrifice to God. This sacrifice is our praise, coming from lips that speak his name. Do not forget to do good to others. And share with them what you have. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Hebrews 13:15-16

But you are chosen people. You are the King's priests. You are a holy nation. You are a nation that belongs to God alone. God chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9

God's Promises When ...

You Are Happy

Hooray! It's a wonderful day! Gone fishin' with bugs in a jar ... There's always a reason to be happy-No matter who or where you are!

Ask and you will receive. And your joy will be the fullest joy.

John 16:24

* * *

You have not seen Christ, but still you love him. You cannot see him now, but you believe in him. You are filled with a joy that cannot be explained. And that joy is full of glory.

1 Peter 1:8

* * *

The Lord has done great things for us, and we are very glad.

Psalm 126:3

The Lord makes me very happy. All that I am rejoices in my God. The Lord has covered me with clothes of salvation. He has covered me with a coat of goodness.

Isaiah 61:10

God's Promises When ...

You Are Thankful

For parents and friends who love you so much, For trees to climb and warm sunlight, For having all that you need-and more, Say, "Thank You, God!" with all your might.

Thanks be to God for his gift that is too wonderful to explain.

2 Corinthians 9:15

* * *

Thank the Lord because he is good. His love continues forever.

1 Chronicles 16:34

* * *

The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him, and he helps me. I am very happy. And I praise him with my song.

Psalm 28:7

Come, let's bow down and worship him. Let's kneel before the Lord who made us. He is our God. And we are the people he takes care of and the sheep that he tends.

Psalm 95:6-7

God's Promises When ...

You Are Worried

Young soldier, don't you worry; My son, don't you fret! God hasn't met any problem That's been too big for Him yet!

Give your worries to the Lord. He will take care of you.

Psalm 55:22

* * *

You, Lord, give true peace. You give peace to those who depend on you. You give peace to those who trust you. So, trust the Lord always. Trust the Lord because he is our Rock forever.

Isaiah 26:3-4

"I leave you peace. My peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don't let your hearts be troubled. Don't be afraid."

John 14:27

God's Promises When ...

You Need Help

Searching for help? Nowhere to turn? You've looked both high and low? There's just one thing to remember: Prayer is the best place to go.

People, trust God all the time. Tell him all your problems. God is our protection.

Psalm 62:8

* * *

Trust the Lord with all your heart. Don't depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in everything you do. And he will give you success.

Proverbs 3:5-6

* * *

So our hope is in the Lord. He is our help, our shield to protect us.

Psalm 33:20

God is our protection and our strength. He always helps in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid if the earth shakes, or if the mountains fall into the sea.

Psalm 46:1-2

God's Promises When ...

You Feel Guilty

A baseball dented the hood of Dad's car, And everyone's looking at you.... Just stop where you are and say, "I'm sorry." It's the most important thing you can do.

"God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him. He who believes in God's Son is not judged guilty."

John 3:17-18

If anyone belongs to Christ, then he is made new. The old things have gone; everything is made new!

John 5:24

"Don't judge other people, and you will not be judged. Don't accuse others of being guilty, and you will not be accused of being guilty. Forgive other people, and you will be forgiven."

Luke 6:37

God's Promises When ...

You Are Tempted to Do the Wrong Thing

The smell of fresh cookies fills the air, But you remember Mom saying, "Don't!" So when a sneaky voice says, "Yes, you can," Make sure your reply is, "I won't!"

[Y]ou can trust God. He will not let you be tempted more than you can stand. But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to stand it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

* * *

Control yourselves and be careful! The devil is your enemy. And he goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to eat. Refuse to give in to the devil. Stand strong in your faith.

1 Peter 5:8-9

For this reason Jesus had to be made like his brothers in every way.... And now he can help those who are tempted. He is able to help because he himself suffered and was tempted.

Hebrews 2:17-18

God's Promises When ...

You Need to Be a Good Sport

The referee blew his whistle in your face, And the other team just stole the ball.... Yet making sure you have a good attitude Is the winning-est rule of them all.

This is my prayer for you: that your love will grow more and more; that you will have knowledge and understanding with your love; that you will see the difference between good and bad and choose the good; that you will be pure and without wrong for the coming of Christ; that you will be filled with the good things produced in your life by Christ to bring glory and praise to God.

Did that boy in your class tattle on you? Did your sister crash your go-cart? Don't yell; don't pout; don't go around mad; Ask God to put peace in your heart.

Do not be angry easily. Anger will not help you live a good life as God wants. So put out of your life every evil thing and every kind of wrong you do. Don't be proud but accept God's teaching that is planted in your hearts. This teaching can save your souls.

    "God's Promises for Boys" Promises Great Devotional Reading

    Jack Countryman and Amy Parker understand boys. Boys are full of hopes, dreams, energy and imagination "God's Promises for Boys" taps into all the above and even more. The book starts with God's promises in various circumstances: happy, angry, afraid. It goes into Gods promises about: God's love, being a better friend, being a good brother...all of which boys face on a daily basis. It goes through God's promises about Hesus and finally God's promises for you. The book does a great job of going from felt needs to eternal truths about our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The best thing that I can say about this book is that I wish we would have had such a book when I was young. The book is written to be understood by boys ages 4 to 8. The chapters are two pages long. Each has a brief devotional thought and three bible verses from the International Children's Bible. The art work catches the energy and innocence of youth. This book is highly recommended for all boys.

    God's Promises for Boys by Jack Countryman and Amy Parker

    I really enjoyed this book! As a parent of a one year old, I know that in a few years the questions will be coming! I think this book will be very helpful.
    This little book of scripture promises is a fantastic resource to have on hand when their little ones are facing struggles or just gave questions. It is easy to read and understand.
    There is a table of contents so that children can easily find what they are looking for. There are many different subjects that pertain to a young boys life. Each subject has several bible verses to implement that part of the book. There are also cute pictures throughout the book to peak your child's interest.

    Whatever your child is facing, struggling or wondering about, this book will have a few applicable verses and a poem that goes with it.

    I think this is a must have book for little kids.

    I, personally, think it's such an AMAZING book!! BUT.....

    My son, whom is turning 6 in 27 days, gets bored with it before I even get to the middle of the page. He LOVES books!!!!! People are always shocked and beyond belief when they see all the books he has. Perhaps it'll be better suited for him in 2-3 years. He absolutely loves his children's Bibles. He begs for him to read to him my adult Bible. I really wish he'd appreciate this book bc it's nothing short of a spectacular book for young boys!!!!

    Nice Little Book

    This is a thin little book that packs a pretty big punch. Every 2 pages cover a different "promise" from God about every topic under the sun. Say your son is feeling angry about something...you can look up "God's promises when you are angry" and turn to that page. There is a cutesy little 4 line poem about anger followed by 3-4 Bible verses that specifically talk about anger. I like the concept a lot. Sometimes the verses are right on and helpful, and sometimes they are a bit of a stretch to apply to the topic. It's definitely a good starting place to launch a conversation with your child about how they are feeling, what God says about things, and how to deal with situations that arise in life in a Godly way. My 2 boys fine it interesting enough, though it's really up to me to remember to use it as a teaching tool.

    My daughter even enjoys it

    God's Promises for Boys
    By Jack Countryman and Amy Parker
    Illustrated by Richard Watson

    This is a children's inspirational/devotional type book written mainly for boys. It covers a variety of topics that kids deal with every day. Each topic spans two pages and includes a short poem and three to four verses. I would say this book is most appropriate for school-aged children.

    I don't have any boys, so I started reading this book to my daughters each night as our devotional. After a few pages, I told them that was enough for one night. My older daughter asked if she could continue reading on her own. She understood the message and liked the way it was being presented. She loves the pictures and thinks they show what the verses talk about. I think this book presents a strong spiritual message because it is infused with scripture. Though we (my daughter and I) would recommend it to boys as some topics are written specifically for them, but girls (like my daughter) might enjoy it too as most of the topics relate to things all kids deal with.

    A GREAT way to introduce devotionals to toddlers!

    God's Promises for Boys by Jack Countryman and Amy Parker teaches boys about the usefulness of Scripture in everyday life. Each two page spread illustrates a promise made to man by God. There is a short poem about that promise and then three to four bible verses that support that promise made by God. In total, there are 60 promises addressed in the book.

    I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations are adorable and my son really enjoyed reading the book. I also think that this will be a good book to refer back to when we need to address issues in his life. I think this would make a wonderful gift for any young boy. There is also a companion book entitled, God's Promises for Girls. Although I have not seen this book, I think that it would be just as good as the one for boys.

    God's Promises for Boys

    God's promises for boys by Jack Countryman and Amy Parker is a collection of over 30 promises from the Bible. Each promise begins with a short (usually about 4 lines) application of the promise that boys can relate to. This is followed by several Bible verses relating to the promise. The scriptures are quoted from the International Children's Bible.

    The promises are broken into 7 sections: God's Promises When, God's Promises About, God Wants You To, God's Promises of Help When, God's Promises about Making a Difference, God's Promises About Jesus, and God's Promises for You.

    This book would probably be best enjoyed by ages 4 - 8. God's Promises for Boys would be good for an extra thing to read with the Bible. This book would make a wonderful gift for a little boy.

    As a children's pastor, this book has earned a place on my reference shelf. With it there, I will have access to a list of God's Promises. The way that the book is organized could lend itself to a series of devotions in Sunday School or Kids Chapel.

    Great Resource For Boys

    This little book of scripture promises is a fantastic resource to have on hand when their little ones are facing struggles or just have questions. Geared towards 4-8 year olds, it is easy to read and understand.

    The Table of Contents is broken down into sections so that children can easily thumb through to find what they are looking for.

    Topics include:

    You Want To Be Cool
    You Need Help
    Growing Up Is Hard
    He Is Your Friend
    God Will Help You Live Your Life For Him
    God Will Answer Your Prayers
    Being A Good Brother
    Praying For Your Family

    Whatever your child is facing, struggling or wondering about, this book will have a few applicable verses and a poem that goes with it. It would also make for an easy devotional tool for children as well.

    I plan to leave this book out on the coffee table for my own son to find, with the hopes of great discussions to follow.

    I really enjoyed this book! As a parent of a one year old, I know that in a few years the questions will be comming! I think this book will be very helpful! God's Promises for Boys

    God's Promises for Boys by Jack Countryman and Amy Parker. It is a really cute book that discusses many topics in every day life from feelings you feel, to the different characteristics of Jesus, to making a difference, God's love and forgiveness, etc. Each section has a main theme and there are sub-sections of different topics under the theme. Each sub-section has a page dedicated to it that is illustrated, has a poem about the topic, and contains at least three scripture references from the Bible.

    Bible Promises for Boys...Not really a Devotional

    I think it was in college when I bought a book of "Bible Promises". Essentially, it was a collection of Bible verses on various subjects taken out of context. I knew that this book was going to be such a book, but I was hoping that the verses would be really good ones and on target for the various subjects I expect to have to tackle with my son in the years to come.

    What I found was a book with 3 or 4 rhyming lines about the topic and then 3-4 verses. Sometimes the verses made logical sense to me and then other times not. I don't think it would be a very good devotional because it would be too quick. If you just want to check the box, I suppose you could use this book, but there are so many books out there that I think would be better.

    There were several topics about doing something wrong. Rather than reminding children that they should strive to do the right thing or that they should apologize and ask forgiveness, this book talked over and over about forgiveness and how children shouldn't feel guilty. Yes, it is true that we are forgiven. We attended a church for several years where grace was preached a lot--but living rightly wasn't. People are so afraid of legalism that as a culture we seem to shy away from even talking about how we should live. That way of looking at things seems to be very prevalent in this book. There is much talk of grace, but not of living rightly and repentance.

    I know this is just a book for little boys and parents. Maybe I sound too serious in this review, but I think there are many books that I would recommend instead of this book.

    For younger children 2-4, I would recommend the Read Aloud Bible Stories by Ella Lindvall and Big Thoughts for Little People by Kenneth Taylor for devotionals. For 4-6 year olds, I would recommend an out of print book called Everyday Adventures by Pat Holt if you ever come across a copy. I'm still on the lookout for other good devotionals for 5 and 6 year olds. It seems like there's a lot out there for 7-10 year olds, but not as many good ones for 4-6 year olds.

    Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book for review.

    Little Guys all around the world will love this one!

    This morning I received in the mail a wonderful little book. It's God's Promises for Boys. I requested to review this book, because if I liked it I want to pass it on to my grandsons. And let me say this: I am most definitely going to be passing this along to them!

    Tommy Nelson is a branch of Thomas Nelson and a good one at that. They offer so many wonderful things for God's amazing little ones. This book is a wonderful one! It is a short book, easily read in one sitting, filled with colorful little pictures and life lessons for children. From being cool, to lying, to being saved, there are scripture verses and lessons about God's love and promises for even the smallest of children. Wonderful!

    All in all this is a book that I highly suggest you all get for those rough and tumble little guys in your life! They will smile at the pictures and be in awe of the words of God, just for them. The authors really did an execellent job on this one!

    God's Promises for Boys

    God's Promises for Boys
    By Jack Countryman & Amy Parker

    This book is such a blessing. It goes into just about every subject that young boys go through. It gives them a guide as to how God can help them through. It teaches them to lean on God and Jesus, something even the smartest adult sometimes forgets. They are given subjects from being cool, to controling their anger, all the way to their salvation and what that means to them. All this broken down into a language that is fun and engaging to children. Its guide book to life with the scripture to back it up. My eight year old has already read it. It only took me a half hour. It hooks you. Its a must have for boys!

    Cute look, good verses, lame poems

    I received this book free for review from Thomas Nelson's BookSneeze program.

    A little devotional book specifically geared towards young boys. The book is very cute visually - the illustrations are fun and the design is pleasing. My son is only 2 and a half and this book was not able to capture his understanding yet - but he liked the pictures.

    This book addresses a range of topics from "God's promises when.. you want to be cool" to "God wants you to... influence your world" to "God's promises about Jesus... He is your protector." Each topic is followed by a little poem and 2-5 verses from the Bible. The verses are excellent. The poems are not. Each poem is 4 lines - they are cheesy. Take for example, under "God's promises when... you are tempted to do the wrong thing" : The smell of fresh cookies fills the air, But you remember Mom saying "Don't!" So when a sneaky voice says, "Yes, you can," Make sure your reply is "I won't!"

    This book could be a good resource if I don't want to take the trouble to find verses myself, but I was hoping for more. I think this might be one of those books that looks like a really cute and nice gift, but ends up sitting on the shelf.

    God's Promises for Boys

    I received this book for free from the publisher. This review is my true and honest opinions of the book.

    About this book:

    This book is a somewhere over a hundred pages long.

    This book includes many topics followed by a short "poem" (or something like that) and then followed by three or four Bible verses that go along with that topic.

    What I liked about this book:

    I loved the pictures in this book! They are really, really, really cute!

    I liked the design of this book. As I just said, the pictures are great, combine great pictures with cool colors and patterns and this book just looks really fun!

    Includes a content list, so that you can easily find the right section of the book for whatever you may be going through.

    Includes a lot of Bible verses!

    Who this book is for, or What I didn't like about this book:

    This book is "supposed" to be for 4 to 8 year old boys. I would say that this book is about right for 7 to 10 year old boys, and even at that age they might still need a little help understanding parts of it - and parts of it might not really apply to them.

    My conclusion:

    This is a really cute and helpful book. I give it four stars. (I would have given this book 5 stars, but it really isn't perfect for the age that it is supposed to be written for.)
