Overview

This highly charged mix of urban and contemporary gospel from the 50-voice Dallas-based youth choir stretched gospel music to its outer limits, redefining all but its message with its hip-hop musical metamorphosis. It's slammin' lead track "Stomp" served as a breakthrough to a generation enthralled with rap. An up-beat, raw dance cut with a contagious beat, "Stomp" showcased the soulful rap vocals of Cheryl "Salt" Riley and the savvy writing, producing and arranging talents of Franklin. Other standout cuts include the fresh grooves of "Up Above My Head," which imparted a jazz feel reminiscent of Manhattan Transfer, and moving ballads like "The Storm Is Over Now," "Love," "Sweet Spirit," and "So Good." For choirs in search of an up-tempo pace, there was the somewhat preachy "Faith" and the rousing "It's Rainin'."

All Music Guide - Rodney Batdorf
The success of God's Property is due to Kirk Franklin's skill as a talent scout and as a producer. Like Franklin's other records, God's Property is contemporary gospel music that isn't bland or processed; it still has soul and feeling. Not only is the music strong, but so are the songs, making God's Property one of the most refreshing contemporary gospel albums of the '90s.

Kirk Franklin's album, ''God's Property'', put together using a 50-voice Dallas-based youth chior, can be enjoyed by the entire family. God's Property is an album that can be used as a solution to any problems, with songs like ''Love'', ''More Than I Can Bear'', ''He'll Take the Pain Away'' and ''The Strom is Over Now''. The listener will be able to handle situations from love and relationships, to ostacles that you have encountered. Also, using hip-hop as the basic for some of the songs, like ''Stomp'' which features the artist Salt from the group Salt and Pepper, the album is taking gospel music to another level.

''God's Property,'' a product of gospel artist Kirk Franklin, has a message worth hearing over and over again. Young teenage girls: taught to love and live for God, but never reached in a style that intrigued them. For the first time music (the musical art of Kirk Franklin) has truly touched young females because it is sung in a style they can recognize. The rhythm and beats throughout ''God's Property'' entertain them just as much as the art of Rhythm & Blues or Rap. Because they find entertainment in the musical aspect of this C.D. they are more likely to hear the wonderful content and be willing to live by it. Kirk Franklin has creatively found a meaningful way to present spiritual messages, and he and his choir(s) are definitely being heard.
