Library Journal
In God's Warriors, Nicholson (Knight Templar, 1120-1312) and Nicolle (Hattin 1187, Saracen Faris, AD 1050-1250) combine three previously published Osprey books into one larger-format presentation with new images, more sophisticated color maps, and a new conclusion. Both authors are experts, as their contributions here testify. The book studies the Battle for Jerusalem, where Saladin, who was the head of the Muslims there, defeated and captured the city from the Crusader King Guy. The text then goes on to talk about Saladin's soldiers, called the Faris, and the Knights Templar. The book has many good black-and-white and bright color illustrations, as well as charts and time lines to help orient the reader. The bibliography is divided according to each part of the book and cites works in several languages in addition to English. There is a three-page glossary in the back. The book is academic, but general readers interested in the Crusades will enjoy it, too. Recommended for both academic and public libraries, though libraries owning the three former books need not consider.-Br.
