Now here's a refreshing piece of Broadway magic! There seriously isn't a weak link in this cast. No one who'd make you cringe, no one who'd make you question why they're there. Everyone in this cast is hands-down amazing! They give their all to each song without belting it out so over the top that it makes a mockery of the whole project. From Lindsay and Hunter to Uzo and Telly and everyone in between, this is the perfect cast of Godspell. They've taken a Broadway classic and breathed new light and life into it. Most would complain that they changed the music, the feeling, etc. when there was no need to. While there was no inherent need to change the show, the revival is beautiful and the changes made are beautifully done. Hunter's version of "Beautiful City" is an incredible take on an amazing song. Yes, the lyrics are 95% different and the tempo is slowed down a bit but there's a ton of soul and emotion in this piece. Lindsay tears the roof off of the Circle in the Square nightly with her chop-busting Bless the Lord. I love the Original Cast and the movie cast, now I can say I love the revival cast too. There's energy here, and lots of it. The show looks incredible. I only hope that I can make it out to NYC to see it (I'm crossing my fingers that they ProShoot this one like they did Rent and Memphis, that would be amazing!). Stephen Schwartz is incredibly proud, and you can tell. and by listening to this album, he should be. They should all be proud of the beautiful music they've made here!!!
