Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The current tidal wave of guidebooks begs for bibliographical and critical control. So many of them are derivative and dated and are aimed at increasingly narrow segments of the traveling community. Yet, these books are often the first to introduce the reader to places and cultures, and most libraries should offer a wide selection of them. Going Places describes, and to some extent evaluates, 3000 titles. It begins with a most useful section on guidebook series and follows with a geographical arrangement. Appendixes cover phrase books, travel bookstores, publishers and distributors, and travel newsletters and magazines. A useful work for the travel industry in general, the book trade, and public libraries that support extensive travel collections. Harold M. Otness, Southern Oregon State Coll. Lib., Ashland
