About the Author

Mora Ebie was born in Reno, Nevada and grew up playing soccer, reading books, and traveling with her family. On one of her family vacations, she visited Hawai'i and fascinated with the culture, history, and people, she knew she had found a place special to her heart. During her college years at the University of San Francisco and while studying for her Master's Degree, she spent two summers on O'ahu researching Hawaiian children's literature for her thesis. She currently resides in Los Angeles and teaches first grade and her first book Kai: The Honu Who Didn't Know He Was Brave was released by Mutual Publishing in October 2005.

About the Illustrator

Jon Murakami was born and raised on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. An enterprising freelance artist whose work is gaining everincreasing recognition, he is known for his humorous and whimsical illustrations. His art can be found on greeting cards, tee shirts, cartoons, comic strips, book illustrations and clip art. He is an active member of Cartoonists Across America and the World, founded by renowned artist Phil Yeh. Hismost recent work can be found in Mutual Publishing's Original Poi Cats on Oahu by local author, Genevieve Suzuki.
