The book consists of a series of biographies on women from different walks of life. They all came to the same place for one thing - gold. How they got there, what they did when they arrived and how they spent the rest of their lives is documented in a brief but well-written essay on each woman. Accompanying these biographies are photographs, maps and other information that helps to set the lives of these women in context. As the book is so easy to read, it is very accessible for homeschooling purposes, as well as providing information that could be invaluable in researching a novel set in that time period. For anyone interested in the Gold Rush of Alaska, and the women of the period, this is a book that displays the diversity and courage of the women who braved the elements to seek their fortune.
