Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Each entry in the "Natural World" series presents the animal in its natural habitat, the food it consumes, how the animal fits in the food chain, the animal's life cycle and the threats posed to its existence. Photographs are interesting, varied and revealing. A golden eagle is found in many mountainous regions above the equator but not below. The book discusses golden eagle neighbors as food sources, mentions other similar eagles, and shows eaglets in the nest, through adulthood. Threats to the golden eagle include pesticides that weaken eggshells and illegal killing for sport. A review in pictures and text of the eagle's life cycle and a glossary end the book. Further information includes web sites and organizations to contact and a workaday selection of other books to read. 2001, Steck-Vaughn, $27.12. Ages 8 to 12. Reviewer: Susan Hepler
