Overview

For the past decade, the Golden Retriever has ranked among the five most popular breeds registered with the AKC, with more than 65,000 Goldens registered every year. The Golden Retriever’s personality is as golden as his outer coat. He was bred to please, and please he does. He started out as a hunting partner who delivered birds to hand and has evolved into modern times delivering whatever suits his owner’s fancy. Because Golden Retrievers were originally bred to work in tandem with humans, they are also highly trainable.

Golden retrievers are my favorite type of large breed dog. Although, I've never owned one and was looking for more information. This book is awesome!!!! It covers all issues from choosing the right puppy for your lifestyle to training and correction of bad behaviors. Not to mention many other things about the breed itself. Such as, goldens in particular have issues with weight (wanting to eat everything in sight) to having allergies. I found this book to be extremely informative and helpful especially because I'm looking into getting a service dog. People should consider bying this book for any golden lover in their lives. It was a great and fast read.

This book is an excellent choice for beginning golden owners. Ms. Bauer covers every concievable aspect of being 'owned' by a golden. I would highly recommend it. Other books would be useful for more indepth training, but htis is the best place to start.

This is not the greatest guide to train and keep a Golden Retriever. I have read it front to back and I am still unsure about many parts. Every section is too general. You are better off with several books each specialized in different areas than this book.
