"A pleasure to watch Wolfe untangle this one." (B-O-T Editorial Review Board)

Incredibly brilliant Nero Wolfe is famous for his genius at detection. He is also famous for his wealthy clients and extremely high fees. So why has Wolfe accepted a case for $4.30? And why have the last two people to hire him been ruthlessly murdered? Reissue.

An excellent book by an excellent author

I love all the Nero Wolfe novels by Rex Stout, but I re-read this one with a little sadness. A young boy dies and no one but his mother seems to care, and she will spend the rest of her life without him. And when she's gone, no one will remember he existed. But the book itself is one of Stout's best, which I would say about all of his works. I re-read these novels or listen to the audiobooks about once a year, and reading the new introductions by many other authors makes them even better. I recommend not only buying this novel, but all of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe novels.

    A favorite Wolfe

A kid gets killed by a hit-and-run driver. He had talked to Nero Wolfe a couple of days before. This opens up an investigation that leads to something huge. Also we get to see Archie, Fred, Saul and Orrie as the men of action that we know they are, but rarely see. One of my top Wolfe novels.

    A Delightful Audio Experience

One of Rex Stout's more clever stories, skillfully narrated by Michael Pritchard. The real humor and character of Archie Goodwin appears through this edition.

This One Will Stump and Entertain

One of the classic Nero Wolfe books. The murder of a 12 year old boy that Archie asks to dinner prompts Wolfe to accept a $10,000 fee to investigate for a woman that ends up dead. A crowd of suspects, and you'll never guess which one!
