Tanner Layne and Raquel Merrick fell in love young, hard and fast and both of them knew a beautiful life they thought would be forever.

Until Rocky left Layne, no explanation, no going back.

Layne escapes The 'Burg only to come back years later because his ex-wife has hooked herself to the town jerk and Layne needs to make sure his sons get raised right. Layne manages to avoid Rocky but when Layne gets three bullets drilled into him while investigating a dirty cop, he can't do that because Rocky stops avoiding Layne. They make a deal to work together to expose the dirty cop but they have no idea the strength of their enduring attraction or the sheer evil at work in The 'Burg.

As Tanner Layne and Raquel Merrick play their game and dance around the pull that draws them together, Layne has to discover the dark secrets buried so deep in Rocky's heart she doesn't even know they're there at the same time untangle a sinister web of crime so abhorrent it has to be stopped... at all costs.

And to do it, Layne has to enlist everyone, including his ex-CIA mentor, Rocky's detective brother, the town's unpredictable informant and Layne's two teenage sons all the while stopping Rocky from doing something crazy and keeping their game secret so Layne won't get himself dead.

Meet the Author

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

    Tedious.

I love KA. I do not love this book though. I just kept waiting for something, anything really, to happen. This book could have been trimmed down and been really good, but there was a whole lot of useless words filling pages that really didn't add anything to the story.

I have read more than 27 KA books, her series are awesome. As a fan I'm glad I read this one, but it will not be in my re-read pile anytime soon.

    Disappointed

I love KA's books. I especially loved Sweet Dreams and At Peace but this book was such a disappointment. Rocky was sooooo dumb such as not wanting to take her medicine for headaches and actually believing the "fake relationship". Really!! Also who really talks like Tanner. I could not finish the book when Rocky tried to break in The Brendel. How stupid!! Unfortunately I am going to take a break from KA.

    Good but not great.

After reading At peace and being a huge KA fan I was disapointed in this book. At the end of book two I was sure the next story would involve Benny but it didnt and instead we got two new characters. I have never ever skimmed through pages in a KA book and I find myself doing that now and I havent even finished it ! I finish books in two to three days !

    Great book from male POV!

Love, Love, Love this book. Im a fan of KA and her series/books. I have to say that this is one of my favs so far. I really liked that this book was done by the male POV. Both Layne and Rocky are great characters and their story was good. Like with most of KA books that I have read (Colorado MT man series and Burg series) there is good story mixed in with a good romance that includes suspense. I also love that we still get to read about characters we are already familar with. Like with all of the other KA books that I have read the male character is all male and extremely HOT!

KA books are always a good read. Tanner and his boys were great, but Rocky brought the story down to average. I didn't buy the reason why she broke things off with Tanner years before, and she was pretty dumb in several moments through the story.

Tanner Layne and Raquel Merrick fell hard, fast, and young. They also thought it would last forever...till Raquel left Tanner with no excuse and no reason. They both moved on marrying others and Tanner having two kids. Both divorced. On a case involving a dirty cop Tanner was critically wounded bringing Rocky back to him. Making a deal to work together Layne also has a game plan. One involving Rocky back in his life. In order to make his plans work to bring down a dirty cop, and keep Rocky in his life he calls in his mentor, and Rocky's cop brother Merry.

There were so many moving parts to this story. Webs of lies and deceit and crime abundant. Between Layne's ex-wife shacked up with a scumbag loser, weird disturbing things happening in the Church Youth Group, and a dirty cop Layne has his plate full. Layne has to be one of my favorite Kristen Ashley Men. He is strong, loyal, hard working, and in my mind sexy as all get out! I have yet to be disappointed by Kristen Ashley and I don't think I will....Rock On!

    HOT bunch

You can not go wrong reading anything by Kristen Ashley. Especially, with a hot alpha male as the main character. Layne and Rocky have awesome chemistry that sizzles off the pages.

    Lilywolf ~ Name Ideas

Hey Goldenstripe! We've gotta think of some names for the kits! If you wanna tell me your ideas here that's be great!
•Okay so we can not use: Golden, Stripe, Lily, Wolf, Sun, Shell, Pool, Comet, Storm, Poppy, Dawn, Snap, Dragon, Flare, Smoke, and Rise. We should avoid Fang and Rose. Also I'm thinking we can't use Lynx, Almonde, or Velvet because... you know genetics wise that'd be weird. And under no circumstances should we use Roan or Oak! Lol! You probably already know all this but you know I like to stay organized!
•I did not do a good job planning for these kits! I wanted to have 7 originally (thus the litter of 1 and 6) but Roman put a wrench in that! So now I've got 10, 5 toms and 5 shecats. I really want Shellpool to be extra close to Lilywolf now that she's lost her other daughters (and Wolfsun isn't on much) and because they're so similar personality wise. So I only had one shekit in this latest litter (even though I love shekits! Hehe!)
•Alright so I'm incredibally short on name ideas for these kits. You know I like a ton of names. The only thing is I'd really like "splash" to be either the prefix or suffix of one of our kits' names!
•So for the soft gray shekit with a white underbelly, I've been thinking these: Splashkit, Streamkit, Brookkit, Featherkit, Dovekit, Mintkit, Leafkit... Ya not many really. I like Splashkit but I don't have an idea on a warrior name for that. There's already a Splashheart in the books. Splashfeather? Splashstream? Splashflower? Splashpetal? We can't do Flowerkit, Bluekit, Cinderkit, or Mistykit cause those are taken... I guess I kinda like Splashflower but I don't know... Oh I just thought of one! Willowkit then to Willowsplash? Or Rainkit to Rainsplash? Ha give me your ideas on her!
•And now for the identical twin cream tabby toms. They have brown scruffs. Let's see. Personally I think they should have matching names. So like Frostkit and Snowkit or Eaglekit and Hawkit. Maybe Creekkit and Streamkit. Birchkit and Ashkit? Cloudkit and Fogkit? Rockkit and Stonekit? Thistlekit and Nettlekit? I'm totally spit balling since I tend to suck at naming toms. I do like "frost" as a prefix or suffix though. Throw ideas my way!
•And finally, what should the future hold for these kits (mwahaha so mystical!) I'm feeling since Roman's evil and Fang's evil... maybe the twins should become like Snake and Ice in the books? I guess the shekit could always turn evil too but I like my daughters! Lol! Unless you're thinking that'd be too disgraceful for the parents. But ya! I'd like ideas on personalities too! Man this took so long! Ha but I have to get organized! You can leave your thoughts here and I'll respond at our book! ~ Lilywolf &hearts

It would have helped to have a better proofreader. The constant use of passed when the correct word to use was past was seriously annoying as it happened too many times throughout the book. It was hard to believe the reason she broke up with Tanner so many years ago and how long it took to resolve it. This author's best book in this series was definitely AT PEACE.
