The third version of the author's how-to backpack text ( Pleasure Packing , Condor Bks., 1972. o.p.; Pleasure Packing for the Eighties , Ten Speed Pr., 1981) advises the novice on technique, and informs the advanced backpacker on new equipment and how it has evolved. Wood has been evaluating and using backpacking equipment for a third of a century, and his opinions on what is best or practical are sound. He supports his contentions with recent evidence and theory, forming the basis for this new edition. He concludes with a flourish: a unique chapter introducing the backpacker to trout fishing.
