A dog named Hubble arrives from the Dog Star, Sirius. This dog can talk, and on his planet dogs are in charge of everything. His mission is to learn how dogs live on Earth. The premise of the story and MGM movie of the same name is that all dogs originated on Sirius and those sent to earth we never heard from. Hubble, whose real name is 3942, meets up with a boy named Owen who in turn names the alien dog Hubble. Since Hubble's space ship was damaged, he can't leave right away and he and Owen become friends-he even becomes friendly with other dogs. Owen helps Hubble return home even though he wants him to stay on Earth. There is a surprising end to the story that will make kids happy. This "Festival Reader" is illustrated with photos from the movie. 2003, HarperFestival, Ages 4 to 7.— Marilyn Courtot
