I love this story. I have forgotten Flannery O'Connor and most everything she wrote, but do remember Harry Chapin and WOLD and Elmer Gantry and all the wannabe's. Now I have another Harry to ponder. Harry Ducharme would be on a list of interesting dinner guests with O'Connor and Chapin and Larry Baker if we were playing "who would you invite." It's got religion, politics, and characters, both likeable and not-so-much.
You may find yourself reading this story like you are standing in the room with each character and wanting to know them personally.
And by the end, you will.

I recently read The Rising Flamingo, Larry Baker's first novel. I loved it! I grew up in St. Augustine, so of course there are a few characters who are familiar enough I feel I know them. Either I really did know them or Mr. Baker artfully developed the characters so that I feel that I did. I was very excited to hear about his new novel, A Good Man. What a pleasant surprise to realize that although this new book is not a sequel, the characters from the first book are revisited. I liked the plot of this book even better than the first. It is a reminder to us all that despite a lifetime of experience we may already have in our past, life continues to provide opportunity for discovery and growth. Keep the books coming Mr. Baker! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
Larry Baker is a fantastic storyteller. I loved the characters in this book as well as references to characters from The Flamingo Rising. As soon as I finished the book, I was wishing for another Larry Baker to read! Larry, please come out with another one quickly!!
