Overview

Genuine fans take the best team moments with the less than great, and know that the games that are best forgotten make the good moments truly shine. This monumental book of the New York Rangers documents all the best moments and personalities in the history of the team, but also unmasks the regrettably awful and the unflinchingly ugly. In entertaining—and unsparing—fashion, this book sparkles with Rangers highlights and lowlights, from wonderful and wacky memories to the famous and infamous. Such moments include the end of the Stanley Cup curse in 1994 as well as the years of futility in the 1940s and 1950s, when the Rangers struggled mightily. Whether providing fond memories, goose bumps, or laughs, this portrait of the team is sure to appeal to the fan who has been through it all.

Calling All Hockey Fans: The Must-Read Handbook to the New York Rangers

"The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" is the must-read handbook for everything worth knowing about the New York Rangers. Award-winning reporter Steve Zipay will entertain all hockey fans with fascinating facts, stunning stats, amusing anecdotes and even a few serious stories. Once you read it, you'll be able to hold your own over a beer or two with the most grizzled Rangers fan.

As the Rangers beat writer for Newsday (whose blog is one of the best anywhere in hockey -- http://blogs.trb.com/sports/hockey/rangers/blog/), Zipay makes his book easy to read with such bite-sized sections as Angering the Hockey Gods, The Worst Trades, The Brawls, The Stanley Cups, The Gardens, The Rivalries and All-Time Rangers Roster. And Zipay introduces us to generations of Rangers players, coaches, front office suits and broadcasters with his trademark snappy writing. For example, he reports that one former Ranger "was coaching hockey in a place where most of the ice is in cocktails: Australia."

Whether you've been watching hockey for 50 years or you're new to this wonderful game, this book has something for you. And it's the perfect holiday gift for any loved one who loves hockey. There's no doubt about it -- this book is better than a winning goal for the Stanley Cup.

    And A Beauty

This book is a "kick save and a beauty" for anyone who ever saw Worsley, Giacomin or Lundquist.
Zipay brings back the glories of the Old Garden of my childhood so I can smell the cigars and taste the Nedicks Hot Dogs.
Right now, Zipay is unquestionably THE daily hockey writer in New York. While the other writers stayed home and watched this season's opener on TV, Zipay was covering the game in Prague.
This is a must read for every Ranger fan.
