Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
This is a bulky, play-action book for children that is quite heavy to handle and, unfortunately the copy I examined also had some problems with its movables. The story is simple and pleasing. The main character is Gossie a young gosling who is playing hide-and-seek with her brothers and sisters. When the reader pulls out a tab, which is substantial and a little difficult to pull, Gertie is found hiding in a pumpkin patch. A second easier-to-pull tab reveals Peedie in a boat. A push-in tab finds BooBoo in the birdbath, but where is Ollie? Six pages later Olllie is found sleeping in a wreath, which is hanging from a tree. A pull-tab should make him swing back and forth, but the tab is backed up tightly against the last page in the book and cannot be moved. The pages in between have a scratch-and-sniff, a squeeze and squeak patch that does not make a noise, several working pull tabs, textures to be touched, and a wheel that works for both sides of a page. There is also an attractive game board with punch-out game pieces at the end of the book. Too heavy for young children to manage on their own and with movables that are not easy to move, this book, with its possible problems should be purchased from a dealer who will return it to the publisher for replacement if your copy has flaws. I Also Recommend:

    Fun and interactive

My three year old neighbor loves all of the Gossie board books. This Easter I decided he was ready for this highly interactive flap book. He loves pulling and lifting to find all of the little surprises inside. This is a fun book to read with a child. The writing flows. The drawings are simple, bright, and expressive. Each little character shows so much emotion in an economy of line. I hope there will be more flap books in this series.

Cute sturdy book. Great for kids.

I bought this book for my 2 year old grandson. We have enjoyed books by Olivia Dunrea since he spoke to my now 28 year old son when he visited his elementary school years ago. Our kids love the cute pictures. This book has a lot of things to pull, open and turn. Great readying book with simple words.
