Feathered favorites appear in the giant board book Gossie & Friends: A First Flap Book by Olivier Dunrea. The first page introduces Gossie and her red boots and asks, "Where does Gossie live?" Opposite, three flaps offer possible answers, including a henhouse and beehive. But the red boots give the hint to the right response behind flap #3. Gertie, BooBoo and Peedie all join in the fun on subsequent spreads, and behind the final flap, an egg hatches and Ollie pops out. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

This lift-the-flap-and-learn board book stars "a small, yellow gosling who likes to wear red boots." The "friends" include Gertie, a small yellow gosling who likes to wear blue boots; BooBoo, a small blue gosling; and Peedie, a small forgetful gosling in a red baseball cap. The text makes statements and asks very basic questions associated with the illustrations; comments and answers are found by lifting sturdy flaps. The watercolor pictures are equally quite simple, with only the necessary details included. They offer practice in counting, manipulation, and color identification, along with some other concepts, such as "up" and "over." On the last of the five double-page spreads the friends discover a surprise inside a cracking egg. This is one of several other books about these charming young goslings. 2006, Houghton Mifflin Company, Ages 1 to 4.

Kirkus Reviews
Adorable goslings and numerous flaps will delight the dedicated fans of Gossie, Gertie, BooBoo, Peedie and Ollie. All but Ollie get their own spread to help preschoolers with concepts. Gossie, who likes red boots, has youngsters guessing where she lives. Gertie, who wears blue boots, is inseparable from Gossie as they go up and down, over and under. BooBoo, the blue gosling who likes to eat, asks readers to find the object that is also blue. Peedie is forgetful, except when it comes to his red baseball cap. He wears it through all four seasons and their attendant weather. The final spread asks preschoolers to count four friends, and then offers one last opportunity to lift a flap and peek inside a cracking egg-Ollie! This is a good follow-up or introduction to Dunrea's other books about the goslings, but the uninitiated don't have the background knowledge needed to truly appreciate this latest. Dunrea's goslings are as appealing as ever. Simple figures on a white background focus attention on the details and concepts mentioned in the text. A wonderful addition to Gossie collections.
