Overview

Wondering why you should purchase this book when there are other titles on the shelves written by much higher-caliber fighters? Well, Forrest Griffin is not as good-looking as those guys. He's not as smart as them. He's also not as athletically endowed. And let's face it, neither are you. Those other fighters are pretty much better than you in every way. But you can actually aspire to be as good as Forrest one day. Why? Because he is nothing special, just like you.

Forrest is not a martial artist. He's a fighter, and this book was written for his kin. If you're a hillbilly like Forrest and you get off on having your face rearranged, Got Fight? is for you. This is a manifesto more strategic than Sun Tzu's The Art of War, more philosophical than Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do, more powerful than a well-lubricated locomotive.

In these pages you will learn about true mental toughness—whether it's scraping it out in the Octagon or picking up chicks. You will learn about the mental defects that made Forrest Griffin into the abomination he is today and how you can use your shortcomings to become equally horrible. You will learn the essential tactics of hand-to-hand combat as well as how to defend yourself in the event of a sword attack. Never been attacked by a sword? You need this book worse that we thought.

Still not convinced? Don't worry. Even if you find that the book sucks, it will be no worse than having sex with Forrest Griffin. You'll feel a small prick and some minor discomfort, and then it will all be over.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Ultimate fighter Forrest Griffin no longer holds the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, but he certainly ranks among the most popular brawlers in the sport. In this hard-as-knuckles book, this mixed-martial-arts maestro shares his favorite stories in and outside the fight octagon and delineates 50 key Zen principles for ultimate survival and triumph. A smash hit in hardcover; a pile-driver in paperback. (Hand-selling tip: Ultimate Fighting continues to justify its reputation as the world's fastest-growing sport. And did we mention that fans gobble up books about UFC stars?)

Step aside Lance Armstrong, there's a new Uni-ball Athlete in the spotlight!!!

Almost as intelligently well crafted as anything by Hemingway, this book is as full of passion as it is debauchery. Maybe it is the fact that Forrest remains true to himself and could give a damn about changing for the masses that keeps the book in your hand as you absorb the plethora of information he has taken the time to put within his book. Or, it could be the super-secret fighting techniques revealed with aesthetically pleasing illistrations that make you feel confident enough to try these out at you local watering hole.

With that said, I highly recommend this book to all fighter's...not just street fighters but the harmless little Gayrate/Gay Kwon Do fellas out there looking for some insite from a true fighter's point of view. It's a great book and very entertaining.

    A Must Read For Anyone

¿Got Fight? The 50 Zen Principles of Hand to Face Combat¿ is a book written by and about Ultimate Fighting Champion fighter Forrest Griffin. The book is an overview of his life along with a section regarding techniques in fights. Forrest uses his life in a different way than most writers would however. Instead of a year by year synopsis, Forrest offers advice. He takes moments from his life and turns them successfully into lessons, whether it is preparing for a fight or finding the right woman. I believe that Forrest, whether it is through comedy, technical advice, or just his personality, effectively writes a book that every person, UFC fan or not, can enjoy.

Sometimes, if you read a book, you have a hard time connecting with the writer. That is never the case in ¿Got Fight?¿ Reading through Forrest¿s life, you realize the same reason fans love him is the same reason the book is a great read. You realize he is a very average person. He¿s not the best athlete; he¿s neither the smartest or best looking person. This allows the average person to connect with him. He tells stories of being bullied as a child, or how he was often broke. He even brings up his actual IQ stating, ¿I even took an IQ test in college, I only got an 87, nothing special.¿ (Griffin) Using examples like these allow the normal person to become attached to the character, something a good book should strive for.

If Forrest wasn¿t a UFC fighter, he could be a comedian. One of the reasons the book is such an excellent read is his use of comedy. Now, the comedy isn¿t for all, it can be disgusting but it works. For example, he tells stories of women he¿s slept with. It can be derogatory but it¿s funny when read. The use of comedy helps keep the flow of the book going by keeping the reader entertained. He also has his friends put excerpts of their opinions on things Forrest did. They help Forrest have an everyman feel to him since you see him through their eyes. He also uses humor to insult the readers sometimes. For instance, in the beginning of the book he places an over-the-top very macho, slightly sexist ¿test¿ to take and see if you¿re man enough to be reading the book. It can be insulting but it¿s funny and you can¿t stop laughing while filling it out.

Since Forrest is a UFC fighter, there is some advice when it comes to in-ring techniques and career advice. Amongst UFC fans however, the book can be criticized for not having enough technical advice. I however, think it¿s a happy medium. I believe too much would turn away the average reader while not enough would turn away the avid UFC fans. He strikes the perfect balance when it comes to advice for fighters and stories for readers and doing so creates a book that is a great read for anybody.

    Funny, Interesting Read

Forrest Griffin's book is an funny, witty, and extremely informative read. It gives you a good look into the life of Forrest Griffin from his and his friend's views. It is quite well-written and will have you laughing from cover to cover.

    Touching? Not so much...

First off, the book isn't an autobiography. It's more of a guidebook full of tips for people who want to fight, either professionally, or at the lower levels. That's not the entertaining part of the book, though. The entertaining parts of the book are all the anecdotes (although Forrest might argue that he has no idea what an "anecdote" is, or that he'd ever think to use one) and personality Forrest Griffin has laid out in his book.

Forrest is a funny guy, with a lot of different ideas and opinions, and a lot of them come out in this book for better or worse. If you're a fan of MMA in general, or Forrest Griffin specifically, pick the book up and give it a shot... Just make sure you take the test at the beginning of the book first to make sure you score high enough to read it. That'll make sense after you've read the book, honest.

Hilarious read. Highly recommended for any fight fan.

I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. Forrest Griffin is not only a great fighter, but a highly skilled writer as well. Although not an "intellectually stimulating" book, it held my attention throughout with the nonstop humor, and originality. You won't be disappointed you bought this book!

    got fight kicks a$$!!!

I'm not much of a reader you could say. However, when I recieved Got Fight? by Forrest Griffin for Christmas I could not stop reading. This book made me laugh so hard I could not read it in public becasue of the stares I got from strangers. What these people didn't realize was that I was reading the work of a true genius. Yes, I did just call Forrest Griffin a genius. Got Fight? is the perfect book for any man because it is so accurate to how we think. Forrest shares so many insights not only to fighting but to life. His stories shed light onto aspects that are important, not to mention hilarious. Forrest tells how it is to be a true fighter and man. His stories of training and how training is done right is very helpful to me and gave me some pointers to take on my MMA career. He shared how he trains, hygene guidlines that should be taken into consideration while training, and some of the roads that have led him to his successful UFC career. Forrest is the perfect role model to look up to and is my role model. He also is my favorite UFC fighter becasue he is just a normal dude. I would strongly recomend this book to any guy looking for a good laugh and some thoughtful stories.

One of the funniest books I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

In this "biography" by Forrest Griffin and Erick Krauss, Griffin takes the reader on a hysterical trip through his mind and mma journey. This book is full of adult "guy" oriented humor starting with the "manliness" test at the beginning all the way to the "asian dart" technique showcased near the end. It is a quick, funny read and would make an excellent gift for any MMA fan or 17-35 year old male. I especially look forward to using the dog defense technique!

Wasn't planning to read this, but I did and I'm glad

I do not fight but my boyfriend does so he bought it. I enjoy reading and I enjoy watching forrest but I wasn't planning on reading his book. However, my boyfriend continually gave me the book to read a paragraph here and there and it was so funny that I decided to read the entire thing. If did help me learn more about the technique of fighting so I better understand when I watch now and it kept me entertained the entire time. I really enjoyed it!

This book was histaricle and I would totally recomend it to anyone who is into MMA or even anyone who is looking for a good book. This book is a start up book for anyone who would like to get into mma but forrest put his own twist.

    well worth the cost

i have never laughed as hard or long from a book before i read this. there were times that i would have to stiffle my laughing because i was at work. it is crude, simple humor so if that isn't your thing don't buy this. it's not a tell all autobiography or a "self help" book. it's a bunch of pages that forrest decided to put some random thoughts on and sometimes tell a story or two. also you have to take a test before you read it i believe that's a first.

Forrest Griffin is a funny guy

Forrest Griffin is a funny guy, as is his book 'Got Fight?'. Got Fight is basically Forrest's random reflections on his UFC career as well as his experiences as a fighter in general. Although there are some useful tips in this book, Griffin manages to keep it steady with a fun and comical approach.

Overall this book is a good read for fight enthusiasts and fans of Forrest Griffin. I enjoyed it personally and laughed often, although I think some of the vulgarities could be toned down a bit. However, it wouldn't be Forrest Griffin without them, would it?

    Hillarious Easy Read

The book reads exactly how Rorrest Griffin acts, fast and funny. I read this book before he lost to Anderson Silva and ran out of the ring like a little girl. After that, he lost some of his credability. But, it's an entertaining easy read.

    I Also Recommend:

    No seriously, its a comedy!

Forrest Griffin's "Got Fight?" isn't just the next autobiograhy about an MMA fighter, ala Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes, Randy Couture & Jens Pulver. In fact, this book won't really tell you all that much about Griffin's life, but it will make you laugh and fill your mind with absurd stories that Forrest has actually lived through.

From Forrest's college days, to his dirty apartment where he played the movie "Good Will Hunting" on a continous loop to his first MMA fight, the hilarious stories pile up quickly.

My favorite part of the book was the mini stories, told by Forrest's friends, I've retold each one a dozen times to friends that I know are Griffin & MMA fans.

Forrest so kindly even has a whole section in the back of the book where he shows you his MMA moves step by step, although I probably wouldn't recommend his Asain Dart technique.

Funny, funny book and if I could give you one piece of advice after reading "Got Fight?", do not, EVER, cut Forrest Griffin off if you see him driving.....
