Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
This guide provides many ready-to-use booktalks, ranging in length from quick introductions to more detailed scripts. Loosely arranged by topic (great adventures, the natural world), each chapter includes subgroups (disasters, animal behavior) comprised of approximately 10 titles for a total of nearly 350 books. Each section concludes with a bibliography that includes recommended grade levels from kindergarten through eighth grade, but the majority of books are aimed at an upper-elementary audience. The authors also provide some presentation tips and selection criteria. The booktalks could be used verbatim, as starting points, or to gather ideas for making presentations more appealing. Creative and well-organized, this valuable resource will be useful for booktalking or as a handy selection tool.-Susan McCaffrey, Haslett High School, MI Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
Booknews
Suggests 350 books to stimulate children's interest in reading non- fiction, and provides summaries for planning library booktalks. This sequel to the 1999 publication covers explorers, animals, poetry, history, inventors, and trivia. Written by two librarians, the book also will be of assistance to parents and teachers looking for new book ideas. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
