3 Strong Entries in the Series

If you have yet to read Giantslayer or Orcslayer, I cannot reccomend this new omnibus enough to Gotrek & Felix readers. Those who may have been put off by the somewhat cumbersome, plodding pace of Beastslayer and Vampireslayer should be aware that the series really begins to pick up again starting with Giantslayer. Without giving too much away, the story opens up with a bang and never lets up. To make matters worse for Gotrek---and more wonderful for us--the heroes are joined by the legendary Teclis in this adventure. The interaction between the stoic, fair-minded Teclis and the cantankerous, elf-hating Gotrek are by turns shocking and incredibly humorous. The irony of pairing the two together is certainly not lost on author David King, who's final entry in the series is certainly one of the best.
Nathan Long does a fantastic job of preserving and even further-developing the characters of Gotrek and Felix in his first entry, Orcslayer. What makes the tale particularly compelling is the inclusion of rarely-glimpsed background story on the character of Gotrek. More specifically, we are introduced to elements of Gotrek's past before he took up the crest and became a Slayer. Additionaly, the story features a strong theme of testing the endurance friendship/comradery under stress and hardship, with a particularly enjoyable and believable anaylysis from the perspective of Felix. There are also some really fantastic, tragic, and highly unexpected twists and turns as the book goes on, and the conclusion to the mystery the story presents is both very satisfying and actually a bit heart-wrenching as well.
Manslayer is another enjoyable entry in the series, although with perhaps not as strong of a story as the other two entries. The return of Malakai Makaisson is certainly to be enjoyed, although he plays a much more marginal role here than he did in Demonslayer. The plot is a little more predictable, but nevertheless fun to see unfold.
On the whole, I would say this omnibus will prove to be a fantastic read for those who have yet to delve into the later adventures of Gotrek & Felix. Nathan Long proves himself as a worthy successor to the legacy begun by David King, and overall I would surmise that the content of this third omnibus is a stronger, and even more enjoyable read than the last one.
