Description: The seventh edition of this standard in plastic surgery is as significant as the first. Dr. Thorne, who has edited the past three editions, presents cogent and relevant information spanning the breadth of plastic surgery. The previous edition was published in 2007.
Purpose: Besides providing a wonderful learning experience, this book is intended as a readily available resource for orienting the uninitiated and promoting greater understanding in those familiar with the field of plastic surgery.
Audience: The audience is wide ranging. The book is a primer, a reference, and a source of information for readers in many specialties: plastic surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, oral surgery, orthopedics, and general surgery. Residents are the primary beneficiaries.
Features: This edition is in full color, the vast majority of chapters have been rewritten, often with new authorship, and the balance of chapters has been reworked to meet the needs of the audience. Additionally, a new section highlights body contouring. Both the transplantation and hand chapters now reflect the evolving progress in these fields. Divided into nine parts, this book covers the basic principles and techniques in plastic surgery through trunk and lower extremity reconstruction. In between, readers will find: skin and soft tissue topics; congenital anomalies along with pediatric plastic surgery; head and neck surgery; aesthetic surgery; and breast and hand surgery. The graphics, photos, and charts are well presented and add clarity to the text. Finally, this edition includes an access code for a complete online version.
Assessment: Readers of this book will be the beneficiaries of the latest knowledge in plastic surgery. It is a well-done update.
