Overview

A trip to Italy’s Tuscan countryside is a dream come true for curator and manager of Marshfield Manor, Grace Wheaton. At least until her boss—and benefactor of this whirlwind excursion—becomes the target of a murderer…

When Grace and her boss, Bennett Marshfield, turn up at the Italian villa of one of his oldest friends, they’re troubled to discover that most of his friend’s impressive art collection—including a prized bronze skull crafted by Picasso—is fake. Someone has been selling the real deals and replacing them with skilled forgeries.

Unfortunately, Grace and Bennett have to fly home the next day, so there’s no time to investigate. But their troubles are hardly over. On the plane, Grace catches a woman trying to poison Bennett. The woman, of course, isn’t talking, but by the end of the flight, there are two dead bodies. Now Grace has to wing it to find a mile-high murderer—especially since she suspects Bennett is still in danger…

Grace Takes Off is the 4th book in the A Manor House serie

Grace Takes Off is the 4th book in the A Manor House series.

Grace and Bennett Marshfield have had a very enjoyable vacation touring Europe and have stopped off in Italy to visit with an old time friend of Bennett's, Nico. While looking at the collection of valuable paintings and such, Bennett notices that a Picasso piece is a fake. But since they are leaving the next day, there is time to really look into the matter.

At the last minute they need to change their flight plans and Nico's staff has secured them seats on flight back to Charlotte. On the light back home Grace is going to the galley to thank the stewardess for her attentiveness and notices another passenger putting a drug on Bennett's meal that would have surely killed him. Then when another passenger ends up dead, Grace is really concerned about Bennett's safety.

Once back at The Manor, Grace and Bennett begin to look into just who might want to see Bennett dead. At the same time they want to find out just how much of Nico' art collection might be forgeries, as they suspect they might be connected.

Hyzy gives the reader a well plotted story and exciting story that kept me guessing till the end as to who was behind wanting Bennett out of the picture. All the recurring characters are back to help and lend support to Grace as she attempts to get to the bottom of this dilemma. I'm even appreciating Frances more in each book.

I can't wait for the next book in this wonderful series.

In Hyzy’s mystery novel, Grace Wheaton, curator and manager of Marshfield Manor, is on a dream vacation in Tuscan with her boss, Bennett Marshfield, as they visit one of his oldest friends. Soon after their arrival, Bennett discovers that many of his old friend’s art are in fact excellent forgeries. Much to their dismay, they must fly back home for a mandatory meeting and are unable to spend more time determining just how many of his friend’s treasures are worthless. On the plane, Grace stops a woman from drugging Bennett’s food and by the time they land there are two dead bodies and no explanations. Grace simply can’t help herself—she thinks Bennett’s in danger and she will do whatever it takes to solve the crime before anything else happens.

A fast paced, fun read that will keep you guessing until the end. Grace is at the top of the list of great amateur sleuths. A great addition to the A Manor House Mystery series.

I have read and enjoyed the first three books in this series . But this the fourth book I loved. It starts in Florence, Italy and everything about this story is exciting. Grace just seems to find trouble and this time it is big trouble. Some new characters and the return of old ones . All this added up made me read way too late at night. This cozy really takes off.

I have to tell you, Julie Hyzy our intrepid author is beginning to annoy me. LOL This little adventure taking place on two continents had me swinging in the wind trying to figure things out.

Her plot twists and fairly large ensemble of players this time will keep you guessing what is really happening all the way to the end of the book. In fact things were in such at tumult at times I figured Grace would feel like she was underwater.

    I Also Recommend:

Grace Wheaton and her boss Bennett Marshfield take a trip abroad

Grace Wheaton and her boss Bennett Marshfield take a trip abroad after solving another murder back at home. Before heading back to the states they stop to visit one of Bennett’s oldest friends, Nico Pezzati, at his Italian villa. While there Bennett notices some problems with his dear friends art collection. But before he can investigate or share his knowledge with Nico it is time to return home. That is where the real trouble begins. Grace catches another passenger trying to poison Bennett and by the end of the plane ride there are not just one but two dead bodies. Grace knows her boss is still in danger so it is up to her to find out the real story and just who is trying to kill her wealthy benefactor before they succeed on the ground what the couldn’t in the air.

I have learned quickly that Grace always catches the killer and she is not a woman to mess with. This time they are after her boss and she is not standing idly by. Grace is a fantastic character and her behavior rings true to real life. This is what makes Julie Hyzy’s books so delightful to read. The reader can identify with Grace and almost feel that they are a part of the story. Sending us on a virtual trip to Italy was just icing on the cake.

The plot lines are tight, the characters are terrific, the setting both in North Carolina and Italy in this installment is ideal. Hyzy is a master storyteller and I love to read everything that she writes!!

Grace takes off is off the charts. The action scenes are very exciting and will have you on the edge of your seat. New characters and old keep Grace on her toes. Family problems and international travel all make for an excellent read. Can't wait for the next exciting book in the series.
